Leaving nobody off the table Weezer today has some of the best raw tone period and that includes everyone we discuss here until we cannot stand to see their names within thread titles.

I would lift up my heart and give much praise to Lynch if he showed up with this tone, christ these guys just grab Marshalls and a VH4 and rip. Guitars are over the bass and drums ripping through the mix.

WTF are amp companies thinging?????? They need Weezer sig amps.

Nerdcore > guitar god endorsements.

Oh yeah.......................Girl count is huge at Weezer shows which may confuse many men here.

Yup. That guitar tone destroys most shredder or guitar god type tones.

Are they ridiculous guitar players? Nope. No one (seems like a high percentage of hot chicks) in that big crowd seems to care. The band sounds great.

Umm, actually one of those guys in Weezer used to be an 80's shredder.

rivers is a good interview to read...he knows his shit and wears his influences proudly.

great vid. thanks for posting it.

I love weezer...great, fun songs! awesome tones too. the first album tones werent that nice, but Maladroit...love them. Rivers is one hell of a guitar player, Weezer just doesnt really call for that type of playing. he actually put the band on hiatus to go and get a degree in English...uber nerd. but a cool guy too. always seems really down to earth.

I was just gonna say Rivers Cuomo was a huge Yngwie fan and a metalhead shredder back in the day. So he should know about  tone!

There was a period where they toured with Line 6 PODs and sounded pretty much the same. They did it for time/money/space constraints, but the end result was pretty close. I love Weezer, those guys just know how to bring it. If you think that they can't play...you are wrong.

Yeah I was waiting for the skill comments to come out knowing that Rivers can tear it up on guitar.

Of course I know about his background, but none of those people in that audience do.

I'm talking about players that are well known shredders. Gilbert, Kotzen, Gambale, Howe, McAlpine.......they all had tone that was suspect.

How could you possibly know what all the people in the audience know? As for Gilbert, Kotzen and Howe...idk what you are talking about. Gilbert's early tone did suck, but his later tone is awesome. It is pure Marshall. His ADA tone was shit, but his Laney and Marshall tones are tremendous. Most Kotzen tones are fantastic. So good, I built 3 guitars around him that let me get close. My Esquire and 2 Strats. Even Howe's tone is pretty good lately. I can't really speak for the other two. Gambale I am not familiar with, and McAlpine I haven't heard since he was on tour with Vai...but he sounded great then. I am pretty sure everyone had tone that sucked at one point. My tone sucked when I was 8 and I played through a Gorilla.

Shredfests are often sausage fests.

Weezer is great. Hash Pipe is a stone cold party band song. And it help it was in a movie where Stifler was running thru a lesbian stronghold with a dildo in his hand!

Yeah....even their less riffy songs are great. I can't tell you how many times I played this track.

I dont know, I think that the tone is good but Im not sure if I would call it anything special or hard to achieve...

I don't why, but I just posted Beverly Hills, and the wrong video showed up. Go check out Beverly Hills.

Who said it is hard to achieve? He is plugged straight into a Mesa Boogie stack. Is Yngwie's tone hard to achieve? No. Plug in and crank it up. It is just good. Most good tone is not hard to achieve, in fact a lot of is requires a guitar, a cable, and an amp.

No one did, I did. I dont think that its anything special; pretty generic actually hence the reason that I added not hard to achieve... Does that bother you?

Way better than 90% of the guys we speak about on this forum imo. The mix for being live is awesome!
