So i've been doing a lot of reading today but still a bit confused on how this setup would work.

I'd run this after my torpedo live before going into my interface and DAW.

Is this on the right track?:

1) Torpedo live line out to SM10 line in (#9)
2) Mon send to eclipse in
3) EFX send to PCM80 in via insert cable
4) Stereo wets from eclipse return to 1 channel
5) Stereo wets from PCM80 return to another

Bit confused on exactly how the dry signal comes into the SM10 and how to then split to Eclipse and PCM80

cheers!

The Torpedo's 'main' output enters the mixer's channel.
If you don't hook up any effects via the aux sends (mon and efx), it goes to the master L&R output bus typically.
The aux sends can be tapped off that bus (between channel and master out) either pre-fader (=monitor sends) or post-fader (=fx-sends).
So both the Monitor send and the EFx send receive the Torpedo's dry signal as well.

I recommend you to set the internal dry/wet balance of the Eclipse and PCM80 to 100% wet, because if not, you're feeding back dry signal to the mixer, parallel to the Torpedo's direct dry signal, BUT, with the difference that any dry signal returning from the Eclipse and PCM80 has passed their A/D and D/A converters, so the alignment of the potentially 3 dry signals in the SM10 will not be exact and may cause phasing issues.

Thanks very much for explaining that so clearly for me.
Very helpful! :)

Absolutely I would be running all effects 100% wet.

I'm now confident to pull the trigger on an SM10 :)

Cheers!

I STRONGLY recommend you to get a different mixer!
If this setup is meant to be used with your recording station...I'd really go for a desktop mixer over the rack one... which is "ok" for a stage rig.
The desktop one sounds much better and gives you a lot more routing possibilities.
There are great mixers out there, depending on what you can afford... and they do ADD nice colors to a digital rcording.

hey mate!
Yes this will be for recording only.

I’m only mixing in an Eclipse and a PCM80.

what mixer would you recommend to get this job done?

I’d like the quality without going overkill on features I don’t need

Allen & Heath are nice!
So are Mackie and Soundcraft, particularly those made in US and UK.
Get something with 4 Aux Sends, NO less.
You can do a LOT more on a mixer as it's a real musical instrument.
An example out of many....
take any digital delay made in the '70s and early '80s, be it Lexicon, AMS, TC, Roland, Yamaha, Korg, anything....
these had analog feedback... meaning that the signal leaving the delay was converted thru D/A and sent back to the D/A input as an analog one.
On it's way there it was filtered (hipass/lowpass) thru analog filters and analog phase inverter and level... and along with these features there were many others (like analog oscillator modulating the sample rate for modulation, etc,).
When DSP based efx came around all of that was lost.... everything got digital and a lot of the magic was gone...
PCMs and Eclipse have very nice delays but you can improve their tone by not using the internal feedback and filters and use the mixer to cover those.
Say you have you Eclipse on Aux 1 and 2 and a delay is running. Don't use any feedback and filters on it... just use the AUX 1 pot or both AUX 1 and 2 if the delay is stereo or multivoice to feed some of the output analog signal back to the input of Eclipse... and use the channels EQ to shape the echo tone. You'll hear what I'm talking about....
There's a lot more one can do with a mixer!

I hate to recommend Behringer, but...

The X-Air mixers are great for this. Not only can you route it however and configure it to do whatever you need, but it works as an interface as well. I got one to run IEMs, and have really been blown away by it.

I recently configured it to run in a similar manner with my ukulele. I was taking a pedalboard for chorus and reverb to play live and recently set it up to use the XR18 for effects. Not only did the XR18 sound on par with the pedals I was using, but the dry signal mixed in made the XR18 sound better than my pedalboard. I just set up a bus for the uke and set it up to send that to the IEMs, and out an output to FOH. It would be the same to set up the bus to be a USB send into whatever DAW. Best part is, I don't even use the main mix for anything. If I ever had a gig where I needed to mix myself, I still have my IEMs, FOH outputs, and USB outputs separate from a main mix.

I'm not sure what interface you're using, but the X-Air mixer might be the way to go.

Thanks very much guys! That's some great info right there and certainly enough to point me in the right direction. :)
