Mixing a 1960 and a 1936 speaker cab ???

Hi guys,
Been struggling to hear myself at gigs lately because my speaker cab is always behind the keys player ......... and he's a big lad like me ... hahaha.

Anyway, thought I'd get a Marshall 1936 2x12 to sit on top of my 1960A 4x12.
The 1936 is 8 ohm mono or 2x16 ohm stereo.
The 1960 is 16 or 4 ohm mono or 2x8 ohm stereo.

So I run my 100 watt Splawn QuickRod on the 50 watt setting (half power) and with a 16 ohm cab the impedance is set to 8 ohm as stated in the manual.

So I'm gonna have to get the 1936 rewired so i can use both together.
My electronics/repair guy say he'll have to wire the 1936 to 32 ohms mono ( as it has two 16 ohm speakers) and that way I can run it with the 1960 at 16 ohms mono ......... with the head set at 8 ohms still.

Does that sound right guys ? just wanted to check ............ hope you didn't fall asleep during that

Just so you know (and I have a 1936 and a 1960 slant) - geometry won't let this happen. If you have casters on the 1960, its a bit too wide to stand on top of the 1936. The 1936 is way too wide to sit on top of the 1960a - you might get it up there, but I'd be worried about balance and the whole thing toppling over. I've had a couple times when both cabs were at home and I was trying to reduce the space they took up, but I couldn't stack them.

I also don't think you need to rewire the cab -
1/8 + 1/16 = 3/16 = ~5.3. You can set the amp to 4 ohms and be OK.

Cheers mate, I had the rig stacked yesterday and it seemed ok, no more unstable than some stacks I've used in the past ?
