So I bought a Mod50 to go with my M4 - Mesa 50/50 setup.

I have had the chance to a/b them and had some impressions that I figured
may be useful to someone. *I know all rigs will be and sound different, but these are my
initial opinions in no particular order:

-Mod 50 is a bit warmer at higher levels than the M4/Boogie power amp. Boogie is probably biased colder and has no density control;
-Mod 50 is a bit gainier than the M4 at roughly the same stage volume.
-At lower volumes the differences between the two are less pronounced/almost indistinguishable;
-The M4 + 50/50 feels slicker/slippier than the Mod 50. When doing runs on M4 rig the string sliding felt "greasy" where the Mod 50 did not;
-These are two GREAT rigs.
-All things said, the feel between the Mod 50 & M4 + poweramp is not THAT much different, and I see now why some don't classify one
over the other as better or worse -- just different.

Finally, I cannot wait for the Egnater power amp to show up. I'm sure it will be a perfect match for the M4.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. I run the RT 2/50 power amp which is a warm sounding amp. Compared with the Mod 50 at louder volumes, I don't think there is much of a difference in warmth.
The M4 does seem a little "cleaner" with most modules, maybe a little for hifi for lack of a better term. There is just a certain mojo you get from a head that I've never been able to get with a preamp/poweramp setup. That being said, the difference is small and at higher volumes, when the power section is cookin, I don't notice it. Just my $.02
