Has anyone modded the new 20 from them yet? I would love to try and find dwarvenaut specs the best I can...or anything really, I hear you can make these 20w beasts. Granted I'm happy with it running a heavy Fuzz or my Wampler. But there's always more gain out there.

I have hunted for ages trying to find mods for the HV with no luck. I really want to try a few mods on it...have a stock 22H and it kicks arse

The whole point of the 20HV was less gain. You're wanting to get more gain out of it? Maybe I'm not quite understanding your goals of it.

yes you are right it is very plexi based but hey dudes modded plexi for years as well so why not

The 22H is one of the best value tube amps around imo... I paid less than $300 for mine which was a rarely used floor model... They put a JJ in V2 and it seems to compliment it nicely... I play it alongside of another guitarist using a Triple and it does amazingly well. Always leaves his head shaking when you consider the cost and size of it... I plan on doing a few mods to it in the future. Here's a thread with a lot of JCA info: http://www.guitarampboard.com/forum/vie ... &start=750

I haven't gone thru all the pages there but couldn't really find anything on the HV sadly

I bet a savvy tech could turn this amp into a jca20H For less than $1k!

Kidding - I think these JCA amps are decent platforms for modding.

Agreed, but why not get the regular 20H? :dunno:

Anyway, what type of mods are you looking for? Any tone references? Plenty of stuff you can do to juice it up a bit. I've lightly modded 3 of my JCA's over the years and (to me) easy and very inexpensive.

I got the 20HV because I already had the 22h and I liked the demos I heard. I use the HV for the wet side of a wet/dry set up...now I want to run them in stereo and would like a bit more gain to get into jcm 800 territory... at the moment I drive the front with a OD but I hate pedals in front of amps as a rule so would like a switchable option in the amp. I am also keen to try my hand at a few mods, have built guitars for years and wanna try something else :D

Gotcha.

Here's a link that includes mods for the 20 watters:
http://www.harmonycentral.com/forum/for ... 8/1376418-

Any amp tech should be able to perform those mods and tailor it the way you want i.e. switchable.

And yes, the 22H is one of the best bang for the buck amps. One day I'll get a 22, but I don't really need one since I have a 50H, Friedman modded 20H, and an Earhart 50

wow an earhart  shame they don't make them anymore, looks like one of the best amps you can get. I have read that people prefer the 22h over the 50h (there's a thread on here in the last week that mentioned that)

Looks like I need to open up the HV and compare the schematics to the 20 and go from there

Don't go down that rabbit hole. You'll never be truly satisfied with it and you'll mod it until the PCB traces fall off. Just sell it and find Something you like.

I've modded a 22H 4 times for a guy, and he keeps changing his mind about it. It's perfect for two weeks, then "ya know, it could use a tad more/less of ____"

well I think ( :dunno: ) the advantage I have is I LOVE the sound of my 22h so the HV mod is just something to run in stereo with it (buried lower in the volume mix)...so a darker marshall type tone...but yeah if it gets to hard i'll just get a DSL 15 or look into the 6505 mini's and start again

I got a 22H from Musicians Friend Stupid Deal of The Day for $279, shipped. My plan was to take it to Jeff Andrews here in Atlanta and have him mod it, but to be honest it sounds pretty damn good the way it is.
I had a bias mod done to my 5150 II after reading thread after thread of how awesome it makes that amp, but to be honest I don't really think it sounds that different. (Shame on me for believing everything I read..lol) It still sounds like a Peavey 5150. Atlanta Tube Amp/Steve Mckinley Electronics did the work.
I hear that the Jet Citys are more noticable after being modded though.. Bang for the buck, the 22H is a great amp!

Here's my input:

*The 20HV schematic is very similar to the 20H
*The JCA22H crunch channel is basically the JCA20H amp
*There are tons of gain mods for the JCA22H crunch channel

My point:

*Look for the JCA22H crunch channel mods and find what you need to do for the 20HV
*If you want to make your MODS switchable, keep in mind that a lot of the gain mods will require switches that can accommodate the DC voltage as well as have enough poles to accommodate the quantity of changes in resistors and caps changes to take place. I dont imagine you can have one switch that changes all of the specs of the 20HV to "SLO specs". You will need 4PDT or 5PDT I would imagine
