Modding Fryette/VHT Deliverance 120

I'm thinking of a way to mod my D120 and added an additional Master Volume and a footswitch which would trigger a relay to choose between the stock and added MV AND choose between the More/Less Mode.

I like the simplicity of the D120. I owned a Sig: X and while it was a great amp, I didn't use all the channels because Fryette amps are so dynamic, and I wanted some tight/heavier punch that the D120 delivers.

Thing is that I play clean to heavy stuff and rolling my guitar's volume back in the More mode isn't as clean and quite as I'd like.

My thinking is that I find the sound I want with the gain controls and EQ that gets me the gain sound I want and then set the MV accordingly and then use the mod to raise the volume in the Less mode, as their is a volume drop/boost (depending on how you look at it) going from the More to Less. So the added MV will allow me to set the volume just right and have the More volume just right, so it's not way louder than the Less mode.

I have an idea about how to do the MV switching (see drawing attached). However, I'm not sure how to wire the More/Less footswitch. I could just remove the PCB mounted toggle and wire the PCB pads to the relay, but I want to (if possible) keep the stock toggle intact, but figure out a way to bypass it when a footswitch is inserted. So when no footswitch is plugged in, the toggle functions as normal.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Money is an issue, and I emailed them and they said they can't/won't do anything.

This doesn't help the tech side, but have you tried dialing the gain back in less mode and trying a boost pedal to get it heavier? I've had both the 60/120, and at gigs that's how I set them up for songs that required a clean tone. Admittedly, I liked the amps better without the pedal but it worked well enough...and still had that great punch/articulation....

That is actually a shock, they must be busy with the new trinkets.

It has been a while since I followed Fryette but I do remember hearing talk about them adding the less/more to the footswitch or doing some type of mod. I could be wrong but I think I remember something like that a while back.

The new Deliverance amps with have an Fx loop and more/less switch.

The tech I talked to (via email) said they couldn't offer anything as it would involve reworking the circuit or something.

Regarding a boost pedal. I built an RC BOOSTER CLONE and wasn't happy with the boost tone versus the amp's tone where I like it.

Have you opened up your Deliverance? I had a D60 and there was a place on the PCB for More/Less relay switching jack, but the holes were never drilled in the chassis and the jack was obviously never installed. That would be a good place to start, and it might give you part placement options for what you're looking to do.

I haven't opened it up yet, but that is interesting. I'll have to open it up and take a look! I've see gutshots of another D60 online and didn't see/notice that PCB spot. I'll look again. Thanks.
