love the old sabbath stuff and their terrible awful haunting atmosphere. a lot of people seem to call it stoner...doom...sludge...metal?

what other suggests do you have for a sabbath fan that digs modern metal too?

Crowbar
Candlemass
Cathedral
My Dying Bride
Slough Feg

Hour of 13
Electric Wizard
Weedeater
Eyehategod
Orange Goblin

Those other bands suggested are great, but these bands are more towards the stoner rock side of doom, more similar to Sabbath, without being clones.

I fuckin' love doom! \m/

The Sword.
Make sure you're wearing bell bottoms when you crank it.

Sleep

And all of the other bands previously mentioned. Candlemass is my personal fav, sort of pseudo vintage vibe that I really jam to nowadays, especially in the car.

  Dude, The Sword opened at a concert I went to and they rocked out  I didn't even know who they were before that and haven't heard them since then :dunno: I do remember the guitarist was palying a badass silverburst LP...

Trouble
Cathedral
Blind Dog
Sheavy (pretty much a Sabbath clone!)
Hidden Hand
Candlemass
Grand Magus
Pentagram
Solitude Aeturnus
Sahg
Electric Wizard
Witchfinder General
St Vitus

Some of these aren't "modern" but you get the idea!

Another mention for Electric Wizard and Sleep. Both great.

Oh and Solitude Aeturnus are pretty good too.

Hey, even though I'm in here scoping out guitar rig info everyday... I actually play drums for Sheavy. We have a new album coming out that has a lot of doom and metal. More so then previous sheavy releases in my opinion. I'll post a link to a track or two once its finished if you are interested. /end shameless self promotion

Also, this is my favorite Doom band of late. Behold the the doom of... NOGG! :

The opened for Metallica and I've been hooked since.

Spirit Caravan and Hiigh on Fire are two good ones

Check out Black Pyramid

Oh and don't forget:
Pentagram (Usa)
Count Raven
Las Cruces
Church of Misery
There are tons of bands out there that have that Sabbath feel.

Spiritual Beggars
Grand Magus
Wall of Sleep

.....and of course Sheavy! :D

i grew up with most of solitude aeturnus and played with them in the arlington, tx metal scene over 20 fucking years ago. lol.

here's a link to a disc put out in 2007 by a few of the members of S.A. with robert lowe on vocals, who as any solitude fan would know, is now fronting candlemass.
