Ok... Here is a quick and dirty clip of my modified EVH 5150 III. I bounce back and forth between the Red and Blue Channels. Please bare in mind that I have NOT broken this new cab in. This is mainly just to give an idea of how much gain is available with the mod. The mod consisted of added a 220k resistor to R25 and clipping one leg of R26. I am playing my Charvel Journeyman with a freshly installed Jackson J80C pickup. (Damn I love this pickup!!!)

This clip is dry as fuck. And I hate playing completely dry. lol!

Toan is in the Windex.

lol! I had just finished wiping the beer can rings off the top of the headshell. :)

Sounds great. With all of these mods for the 5153, I wonder if anyone has tried squeaking out a little more gain in channel 1??

I see that when you were playing you posted "gain maxed on blue"....
Sounded great. But thats not the stealth mod.
That is channel blue of the stealth gain set about 2.
But it does sound good.
Havent heard the original 5153 before other then clips.

This isn't the Stealth mod. This basically makes the 100 watt sound like the 50 watt on the Blue channel. I would probably really dig the extra gain on the Stealth. :)

Can you post a pic of your board --I am wanting to try this

I should have taken a picture when I had the chassis out of the shell. It's the two resistors under the Blue channel gain pot on the board.

No....2 out of 10. :D
But the modded clip SFW put out sounds great! How much less was the gain on the blue before you did this?

not sure if my Red channel sound like this on 2 out of 10 ....

Before the mod, the Blue channel gain maxed out was equal to about 10:00 on my red channel.

So you gonna keep it modded or switch it back?
Did the mod make it more hissy?
Clip sounds great man.

I can't really say just yet. I need to run it through my Recto cab to really hear what's going on. I'm still breaking in the EVH speakers. I know what the amp sounds like through V30s. Most of extra gain seems to be in the highs and high mids. I really need to hear it in the context of the band.

I bumped into John G of Sozo caps about a month ago (we were both doing gigs at bars across the street from each other). It was my first gig using my friedman JJ and he came over during our sound check and we talked amp shop for about an hour. Had no idea who he was, but every time I would say something about Friedman amps and such, he would say something like, "yeah man, I talk to Dave every other day or so. Thought this guy was pulling my chain that night, but he left me his card and low and behold, I had indeed been talking to the 'Sozo Caps" master himself. Super nice dude and a wealth of information on all things amp. Long story short, he mentioned that he had moded his 5153 to have a blue channel that is 'mind blowing'. After seeing these threads about this blue channel mod, I figured all this was the same animal here. Spoke with him last night at length only to find out his is quite different. He's replacing some caps and doing stuff that quite frankly is out of my wheelhouse. My 5153 head has been shelved for quite a while but after our talk, I am going to have him do his mod to my amp and I will put some sound clips up. I have already made some clips of the blue channel in its bone stock state so that I can compare and contrast the difference. Super nice guy and was quite taken back on how enthusiastic he is about this blue channel thing. I'll keep you guys posted.
