I heard Dave is doing HBE mods on the seminar head.

Would Dave divulge info to me, like swap R23 for this value, etc?

or is it all a secret?

LOL.

Well, the seminar head's preamp is close enough to TOL ch3. I would think it would be a fairly simple mod.

Maybe add a channel switcher

Sorry I am not going to give it away. I do the Brown eye to that head and it comes out great. If you want to get it done let me know.

I've always thought the seminar head sounded a little to compressed and nasally. Will one of the mods (i.e. HBE) really open the amp up?

that's because it's voiced like a Bogner Uberschall without the third gain stage
but I love its tone
if you want more upper mids and less low end, just reduce the first gain stage cathode from 4.7u to 1u or even .68 (regular marshall/bogner value) and reduce the second gain stage coupling cap to 1n or 2.2n
the first plate 470p capacitor is used for treble rolloff and less fizz so removing it will open up the high end
I wouldn't mess with the cathode caps cause that would change the voicing, but the plate cap and coupling cap mods are worth a try
maybe a bright cap for the gain control

I heard a seminar head at an ampfest and I thought that it was one of the best, if not the best, sounding head there. For me anyway. Open and clear but with a ton of ass behind it. That was compared to an XTC, Herbert, Quickrod, Mark IV, and I think a VHT.

In short, my experience was completely different.

never played one, but from videos I can tell it's much better than most of the expensive amps out there
it's a very simple and clean circuit
the best hot rodded Marshall I've heard along with the Wizards, Friedmans and the Larry Dino
and this is coming from a huge Bogner fan

If that was the Chicago amp fest, I believe it was an Egnater Seminar Head with the Hairy Brown Eye Mod.

It was not Chicago. Stock unit from what I remember. It was a year ago.

Gotcha, different strokes I suppose. My seminar is inbound for a Brown Eye conversion.
