So one thing I'm reading quite a bit about is how the low sensitivity input is used by most for the old EVH tone. That surprises me!!! If the low sensitivity input cops that tone, what does the high sensitivity input sound like?

The difference between the two inputs is pretty subtle. The high sensitivity input gives a tad more perceived gain, but I feel the tone changes slightly in a way that is not as accurate for the VH sound I like best (VHII). To me the low sensitivity input comes close to the VHII rhythm tone with the right effects, just a little less "fire" than I'd like. The clips you liked of mine (SoloI and SoloII) were both recorded with the low sensitivity input and no boost. A lot of people who have owned/played the amp have a hard time believing that, but it is true... You have to fight the amp a little more on legato, but it is worth it...

BillyBogner sure is a great freakin player. He has put up some of the most killer VH clips with that head I believe. I'm sure it will sound killer!

Had a Scorpion for a while. It was stoopid loud!!!!!!

Dang Dave, I didn't know you had a Scorpion. Cool... Hey, Jim and I are waiting for you to give us a date and time to have a get together over at his house. We can probably do it in the next couple of weeks if you can.

I'm in the 'figuring it out' mode. I'll get with you soon!

I've never heard him do even one VH clip with the PeaceMaker??

Thanks for the info again. So if the high input changes the tone in a way you don't prefer and the low input doesn't have quite enough "fire", what do you do? Just take one or the other and run with it?

The change in tone is pretty subtle and is most noticeable to me when I record. I have always preferred the low sensitivity input for recording and I just deal with the lack of fire. Sometimes I use a boost...

Of course, now, I completely modded my amp so it effectively has a 2203 pre section with a plexi power section. I also added a PPIMV (in place of the power dampening), so now I have 2 masters (2203 master and a PPIMV) that I mix. More gain on tap and it sounds good even at low volumes. I'm diggin' it... Has the fire I was missing before, although Curt (Chubtone) gets the fire now with his PM and he hasn't modded it... His last VH clip is ridiculous - as good as any I've heard and his amp is bone stock...

I still have mine after 4 years and still dig it. However I'm kind of surprised Billy Bogner is getting rid of his for an Ultra Lead.

I new I'd get some flack for this, but I thought mentoneman or zachman would have beat you to it!

I LOVE Mojave products, period. I will get another one. But, I keep trying to make the PM do things I don't think it's meant to do. I played a UL at the VHT booth last year at NAMM and it just works for me.

Plus, you just yearn for something different now and again. Just ask my 2nd, 3rd, and 5th wives!!!!!

Clips to come.

Thanks Steve, I really am not doing anything different. Just found a tube combo that works and my guitar sounds way better with that Wilkinson off of it and the EVH in place of the '59.

I never heard a billybogner Van Halen clip on the PM either but every bb clip I've heard is ridiculously good. I'm kind of disappointed that he sold his. I thought he was a long timer too.

I have to say this up front Chris. The Mojave amps change hands all the time. Many people get them and are disappointed that they don't have EVH the first time they plug in or the volume gets to them. I don't use Power Dampening at all. I don't care for it. I much prefer the Hot Plate on it's own with the Bass Boost on. Even a guy like Pat who loves the PM sold his. sah5150 loved his but still had it majorly modded. Billybogner kept his a while and even did that recent album of his with it and then got rid of it. I'm not trying to bad mouth the Mojave stuff, but it takes a bit of work to get it where you want it to be. Some guys sell them and then get another one later.

It should excel at the stuff you are getting it for. It's the guys who flat out want to nail VH right out of the gates that get rid of the amps most quickly.

You noticed one Randy lick huh? That means I'm hiding the other ones pretty well.

Whatever dude! :gethim: By the way, you are now on my IGNORE list!

:D

Man this is one of the few boutique amps I have never played but am dying to try! I have a feeling I could get along with this amp very well...

To this day, that Mojave Scorpion that was built for Billy Gibbons is one of the sexiest amps Ive ever seen.

Looking forward to your review Chris!

I prefer the High input on my Peacemaker. Here's a few clips, all high input.

THis one has the Treble Volume at 8. Treble Volume controls the amount of gain.

Same song but Treble Volume cranked

https://www.soundclick.com/util/getplaye ... 51775&q=hi

And here's an OCD on the Peacemaker for the harmony lead. The rest is just straight PM, no boost on the rhythm or lead. No effetcs.

Damn thse clips sound VERY nice!!!

"got rid of it" sounds a little harsh. I was just looking to experience something different. I wish I had the extra cake lying around to just go buy a UL and a Cameron and %13 and a Carr and an old Super Reverb and a ..... you get the point. Due to my lack of playing live, that PM has been sitting in a closet for 6 months, and when I plug in to practice I just use my trusty RP200 with headphones. I needed motivation. I needed something to push me to want to play again. Damn it, I'm only human

Kurt, ignore list, Huh?

;)

Hey Thump, I'd suggest you put Mark on your Ignore list too. Than you won't have to listen to his crying about wanting his PM back, not that the UL isn't cool, but he'll remember he really liked the PM flavor and miss it.

Alright Mark, I'll take you off my Ignore list because I see you still have your RP200, so your taste in good tone is still fully intact, obviously!

Listen buddy, regardless of what amp you have in your house, we need more clips from you

Oh, and you know my jabs are nothing compared to what mentoneman and Zachman are gonna bring to this thread. :D
