Oh yeah, the tone I just had was perfect. Freaking rocking tone!!! Now ask me again tomorrow. I've been known to love something one day and hate it the next, so this is in no way my final opinion. But hell yeah, I just played for an hour straight with no breaks. That never happens... :)

imo that is THE way to hear the Peacemaker. it almost doesn't make sense how much better it sounds running w/d huh?

vic's personal rig is built around that same wet/dry concept and i believe it's how he ideally would have players experience his amp for the first time because it is magic tone. clear and brown! and if you were to go the extra mile and bring it live that way i'm certain people would flip over your tone.

and i use the powerblock for wet signal all the time and it's totally fine, but you can get more tube meat from mesa/vht etc.
but i like having extra tone control from the powerblock too.

Yeah man, it really doesn't make sense just how much better it sounds with the wet/dry thing and reverb. It's crazy! I mean, last night I was thinking the amp sounded pretty good, but tonight with the wet/dry thing, it was damn near perfect tone! Crazy!

It's probably not the wet/dry. I'll bet you stopped using that lousy Les Paul, didn't you? Those guitars just suck.

Personally, I think that PowerBlock is a fantastic piece of equipment. I always have it in the car as a backup at gigs and used it for rehearsals many times. I think it sounds great. Others strongly disagree, but whatever... :)

It's also killer that it's so small, light, and powerful. I think it's a perfect wet/dry poweramp, since it also functions as a backup if something goes down. Not the best backup in the world, but I could EASILY get through a gig with it. I'm positive of that.

now then,

do you also hear the "voice" in the mids; that clear rock roar that is also sorta in the deliverance, but that the PM projects with a little more refinement?

that is the heart and soul of mojave....the brown roar that we've heard from VH brown to Lynch sacred groove to warren d dropped d "aunch"...oh yeah, have you hit the dropped D greasy oink factor yet???

that is another  mojave tone moment!

I should also point out that I wasn't only whipping out VH riffs (although it's very hard NOT to do that on this amp.) I was also playing some old Dokken and Jake E. Lee stuff that sounded freaking great.

Please don't sell this until after we have our next SLAB!!!!!!!

Jim and I are just waiting on a date from you. We're ready to have one NOW!!!

My weekends have been just horrible, between running the kids to gymnastics, basketball, swimming, church.

Would you guys be into a Friday night thing? It may actually be easier for me to make it.

Looks like I'm going to be wrestling with this respiratory flu this coming weekend...... :(

Watch out for that respitory flu Dave. Ive had it for the last week and it sucks!! Been out of work the last 3 days! Hope you feel better

On another note, Congrats Chris!!

Okay, right now I'm running this:

LP Custom > Mojave Peacemaker > THD HotPlate > VHT D412 cab (100% dry)
Line Out of Mojave > Rocktron Intellifex > Crate PowerBlock > Antone 2x12" (100% wet)

HOLY MOTHER F'ER!!! This sounds freaking incredible! I have the PowerDampening on the Mojave at 100% (no power dampening), the HotPlate on -12db and the bass boost engaged.

Freaking killer tone right now!!!!

Chris

howabout trying hotplate on -8 and cracking the power dampening to compensate? just for experimental sake...i enjoyed the blend.

i'll tell you that the PD may not be as popular tone wise when you are in your house going after microscope sounds, but on stage live, it is very handy to have around to variably be able to get volumes exactly where you want them, when tone hair splitting is not an issue.

and by the beard of zeus, there is nothing more invigorating than letting the Peacemaker's hair down and rogering that beaut full tilt, running wet/dry!

dreams are made of that tone.

I did actually experiment a little with power dampening and HotPlate settings. I had it on -8db and the PD down a hair off 100%, but I "think" I like it better with the PD full up and the HotPlate on -12db. Haven't made up my mind for sure yet, though. I also haven't tried the amp without the HotPlate at all and only using PD. I want to try that too for sh*ts and giggles.

I have a feeling that PD off/-12db on the HP may be just shy of being loud enough, but too loud with the HP on -8db. I'll just have to see when it comes time to play a show, I guess. I usually end up being louder here at the house than I am on stage, so PD off/-12db may be fine.

Can't wait to gig with this beast! I have a gig coming up with the new band on 2/23, so I won't have to wait too long.

Oh yeah, I also like using the bass boost on the HP. It really adds more lows and I like that.

Do yourself a HUGE favor and get one of these: The PM LOVES the one I have, which looks like a piece of crap, compared to this one here:

I think you made the right choice if you've put in 4 hours on an amp in 3 days!

i remember finally arriving at that place too...thinking "i can't do anything to make this tone better..it's exactly what i want in a perfect Rock tone!" and i've NEVER felt that way before about any amp, although i have felt that way about a clean and fusion blues tone in the two rock stuff.

i'm curious to see how the PM has affected your view of the deliverance 60, which i think is a great amp and has come cool similarities to the PM. and do try the dropped D thing, and go after lynch "sacred groove" tones...the low end konk is perfect.

for me, the mojaves made practically every other amp i've played sound less "pure" and up close, and that i felt the need to strip away low mids or reshape reedy highs.

and don't forget that with a pedal, you can set the PM way cleaner by rolling the treble volume back under 2, adding bass volume to give bounce, and then get more of a channel switching rig, ala:

EJ land
that was a dynacomp into the tonebone classic into the replex into the PM...no wet/dry, so it's a little more congested but simple and good.

or just take the treble volume up past 7 and go for the brown:

VH unchained with 2 tubes pulled for earlier break up at 50 watts

that was with the tonebone again, but here's another Peacemaker owner without pedals, and playing the tune more accurately than me   :

unchained round two

Zach hitting the PM hard with a ton of dynacomp/tonebone gain into his w/d/w rig, moving into nuno grind (a little too much mic proximity so watch your speakers on little guitars!):
metal

and finally my friend playing my old strat w/lindy fralin vintage hots SC's into the PM:

Honestly, for guys like me that love the '80s Marshall tones, I'm not sure you can beat this amp. The Lynch, Jake, EVH, DeMartini riffs just fly out of it with tone that is "very right" for that style. So far, I love it!!! It's an absolute joy to play!!!

Chris

coming from your nmv marshall background, you are perfectly suited to appreciate this amp for it's strengths, wheras many others would wonder where the gain is and abandon ship. but if you've been chasing rock tones for most of your career, the PM is a very unique answer. you seemed to have figures it out very quickly.

us hardcore mojave lovers have talked quite a few new users off the ledge over at the plexipalace forum :D

And as Mark and several others told me, I wasn't floored by the amp when I first turned it on. It was okay, but I certainly wasn't floored. But the more time I spend with it, the more I learn about it and appreciate what it does.

Wheeeeew... I need to stop talking like this. :)

Same with me...I was sort of "meh..."

After I figured it out and the nubile teenagers walking down the street came knocking on the door to see what was up, I knew it was a good thing

In the end it was EXTREME firepower I couldn't use, so I got a Scorpion

Thanks man. I've seen a few of you guys mention that pedal... What about this nano version?

ehlpb1.jpg

I wish I still had the Plank Cranker proto to try with this PM. I think it would sound freaking amazing, but I won't know until we get the first batch of pedals in from HBE. I also have an MI Audio Blue Boy Deluxe now, but haven't even tried that with the PM. I'll do that today, actually. I like the MI Audio pedal because you can really tweak it into the right tone for each amp. Very tweakable.

Haven't tried the Nano... A worthy experiment though.

Cool... Sounds like you're having fun.

that was my dilemna as well. if i played in a rock band, or if i had a studio, i'd still have it. after reaching the moutaintop of tone, running it really soft, and attenuating with the PD and a hotplate really seemed like a waste.

but for me the 12 watt coyote is perfect for church and home use, and still keeps me in the mojave family!

oh no you di-ent...

:D

i played live with it for 2 years, and in that time only had a chance to open her up once, and it was the single best rock tone i've ever used live. i kept looking back at the amp in awe and disbelief! the main band that day heard my tone and the gtr player sold a car to get a plexi 45!

i look forward to Chris having the opportunity to crank the PM live.
