ha ha... nah. Oh, and Jim said we could definitely get together on a Friday night. Name the night. Try to pick a weekend where we're not gigging if you can.
SgtThump":3jejry9w said:Okay, I fired the rig up again this evening and struggled with it a bit. I didn't change a thing, but it sounded brighter tonight and caused some annoying "ear fatigue." I highly doubt it's the amp. I'm guessing my ears are just not easy to please tonight or something.
We'll have to see how this plays out over time!![]()
I've learned to never judge an amp by one experience. This happens with every single amp I've owned. I love it one day, hate it the next, then hopefully love it again (and so on...)
SgtThump":3otcs73n said:Well, I do have a Furman rack-mounted power strip that's called a "power conditioner" (I think.) It has an LED readout on the front that shows the incoming whatever, but I didn't pay much attention to it. Not sure. I think it's my ears or something and not actually the amp, but I don't know that for sure.
For some reason, I'm not able to "gel" with the amp today. How can it sound like heaven one minute, then bright as hell the next? I still think it's my ears. Hmmmmm...
Just turn up so you dont hear the singer sing to turn downSgtThump":n3vigm4o said:I can't tell here at my house if running the amp volume full blast, power dampening all the way up (bypass), and the HotPlate on -12db will be too loud on stage with the band or not. As I said in another post, I usually end up having it louder at home than I do on stage. Simply because I don't have a singer telling me to turn down.
If it is too loud with these settings at a show, I'll scale back the power dampening a little. I've noticed that there's a pretty big volume drop even getting the power dampening down 1/4" of the way (5:00 o'clock is full and I'm talking about bringing it down to 3:00 o'clock.)

SgtThump":1tyjvuw7 said:Weird! But those things are so damn expensive... I think the LED readout on my Furman thing says 120 and it always does here at home. Is that a good indicator that the voltage or whatever is the same from day to day or not really?
SgtThump":2jb0ozww said:MrDan666":2jb0ozww said:Hey Chris, its not your ears because this happens all the time with me too...
The power conditioner wont do jack for regulating the voltage.. What you need is a Voltage Regulator, because it takes in the wall outlet voltage and outputs a steady 120v. So your gear see's the same voltage all the time. If you get a voltage drop or increase within 10-15v from your outlets in your house or wherever, and dont have a regulator hooked up... its gonna change the tone and feel of the amp!
I played a Hall somewhere before and took my JCM800 2204 to use. That amp had some decent mid gain, and put it this way.. when we plugged it into the wall outlet in that hall.. The amp had NO gain. I mean, it barely even broke up cranked. When we checked the voltage coming from the outlets, it was only putting out something like 220v instead of 240v. Thats what made the amp sound like shit.. nothing else!

hey chubtone,Chubtone":2gtm1ufv said:I have the Furman Power Conditioner with the LED readout on the front. My house will normally have 117 volts during the day when all my neighbors are at work and when nothing else is on inside the house. At night when the kids are watching TV and my wife has every light in the house onand the AC going, the voltage readout drops down to just over 100 volts.
About two months ago, I bought a Furman Power Regulator. The night before I got it, I recorded a PM clip that I think had the best tone I've ever gotten out of the Peacemaker. My voltage indicator showed just over 100 when I recorded it. I think it "browned" my sound out. After all, isn't this what Eddie did with his variac? Lowered the voltage to his amp to make it a little gainier, browner and not quite as loud? After I listened back to the PM clip I decided to send the voltage regulator back for a refund.

try it through my cab chris it is a hair warmer than the D-CAB!And remember your room could be a touch on the bright side .Isay you bring it over tonight and seeSgtThump":e6sjl548 said:mkalei":e6sjl548 said:Yup, I got an opinion. You musy try an LPB 2 or a Duncan PU Booster, or something equivalent, behind a good OD or distortion. When I needed versatility out of that amp, I would run each volume around 3. When you lay into it set like that, it breaks up a little but in a great way. But, it's nice a clean when you lay back. Anyway, I used the OCD for a moderate/heavy OD (all knobs set to 10 o'clock in the HP setting) using the volume knob on the guit-fiddle to adjust the amount of gain. I ran the PU booster BEHIND the OCD and set it pretty high. Sometimes maxed. Since it was behind it, I didn't get much of a volume boost, but I got an incredible gain boost. I mean, Higain. Then I just backed down the volume knob on the guitar if I needed less. It's not the quietest of set ups, but it works!
IMO, if you value the pure, unadulterated quality of that amp, be careful which pedals you place in front of it. Some will not respect those elusive qualities.![]()
And Chris, It is a different beast on stage in the mix of things. You will be surprised....![]()
Thanks Mark. Ya know, I'm also considering the fact that it's my speaker cab... I have two VHT Deliverance 4x12" cabs that sound like heaven with the VHT amps. But now I'm wondering if they may be a little bright for this Peacemaker. Urgh... I'd hate to sell one of them and pick up a Mojave 4x12" only to find out that the amp won't work for me. Know what I'm saying?
I wish I could try a Mojave 4x12" before I bought one... My guess is that it would tame alot of the highs that are hurting my ears right now.
If you find that its your cab you can alwaYs put padding in your cab!SgtThump":7d6i35e2 said:HMJ":7d6i35e2 said:try it through my cab chris it is a hair warmer than the D-CAB!And remember your room could be a touch on the bright side .Isay you bring it over tonight and see![]()
Yeah, I should try that. The D412's were killer with my UL and D60. I mean, it may be that the cab isn't the issue, I dunno. Now I wish I had my Bogner cab to check it out. That cab was muffled on the VHT amps, but I could use some "muffling" right now with the PM. lol...
Can't come over tonight, but maybe sometime this week.

If it is... I think it's definitely worth trying a rear loaded one like an old Marshall or Bogner.

Ha ha... I was actually thinking about trying to trade one of my D412's for another Bogner. lol... Seriously. No, I mean it. Seriously.![]()
