It seems Fryette heads have been a hot topic lately and having owned a few in the past and really liking them I decided to revisit these amps. So I grabbed a few of them to see which I like best. I play mostly modern metal and hard rock , I almost never use clean channels so thats not really a concern. Over the past few weeks I bought a 100 clx and a 100 cl and have been keeping my eyes open for a Deliverance 120. A few days ago I returned the CLX to guitar center. I could dial in high gain tones on both the 100 cl and the CLX to sound almost identical. So the difference was the CLX was more expensive , it was also used and not in great condition so off it went.

So I kept the 100 cl and found a D120 for sale which showed up today. The D120 sounds great , I like both amps ! I was comparing it to the 100 cl today. I plan on keeping one of them but not sure which yet. Its a toss up at this point.

I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with both a CL model amp and a Deliverance in a live mix ... Although Im not playing out at the moment I have some projects in the works and will eventually be getting to rehearsals and shows. Any preferences on which one cuts better or sits better ? Right now its a toss up for me on which one I'm gonna keep and they do share a similar type of tone. I also owned an Ultralead a few years back and can say that all of these amps are not worlds apart they all sound and respond very similar , with tube swaps and different settings you can get them all really close. There is a a bit of a difference in eq curve between the Deliverance and the 100CL that my ears havent completely adjusted to yet to say which I like more. Rant ! lol

Having not played the CL's, but currently owning a CLX (which you said sounds very similar to the CL), I'd say they both can cut. I have gigged a Deliverance and a Classic in the past at various points.

When you say you play modern metal, what does that mean?

You can't go wrong with either, honestly.

Yeah Modern Metal is kinda vague ... i dont know, I like all forms of metal but find myself playing riffs along the lines of Killswitch Engage / Lamb of God.

I play modern metal ranging from Lamb of God type stuff to death metal and deathcore and some hardcore influenced stuff. I got a D120 a couple weeks ago and I’ve never had another amp that cuts through the mix better. Haven’t had a gig with it yet but it has no problem at rehearsal and we typically are as loud or louder at rehearsal as at a gig. The other guitarist is using a 6505 and the mix is awesome. I am boosting the D120 with a SD 805 or an Airis Savage Drive. Both sound awesome, I’d like to just have one boost on my board but I keep going back and forth between those two.

My only gripe with the amp is that it doesn’t come stock with an effects loop (unless it is one of the recent master built series). I bought the FX loop kit from Fryette though and should have that installed in the next week or so. I also just built a footswitch to do the less/more mod to make that footswitchable too.

If you want an idea of how it sits in a recorded mix, Unearth’s III: In the Eyes Of Fire was recorded with D120’s boosted with a Maxon 808.

The lack of an effects loop was no-go for me on the D120. I have a sig:x that I have not played in a long while honestly, but it is great all around. All channels and modes do it for me.

If I were to get another Fryette it would be an UL. I almost bought one a year ago but foolishly passed up a good deal.

My sound guy back in 2014 thought that the D60 I had was the best tone he'd heard me with..up to that point I'd gigged with SLOs and a TON of modded Marshalls including Camerons. The way I ran it made it very similar to the SLO I had at the time. My main cab was a 79 Marshall with 65s.

Thanks for the input so far fellas....The D120 I have is a masterbuild ,so it does have an effects loop which Is def a plus for a live rig.

Deliverance 120 and Sig X fit me best. I've owned both about a decade. I would be fine with any of them.
I'm currently using a Deliverance 4x12 with P50E. Eventually I will likely pick up a other Deliverance 4x12 with Fane speakers.

I owned a CLX for a while and loved it. Great amp that can do a little bit of everything. Here are some clips I recorded back about 2006/2007. Most without a boost.
