How do they sound compared to your pauls? Just an excellent playing well built les Paul?

Exactly. Mahogany body/neck, neck thru construction, 9 1/2-10 pounds. So, much the same as a Les Paul, but these stay in tune. I haven't heard the familiar G/B string pop yet either.

Yes they sound great. Very underrated guitars.

Great guitars....funky necks. I loved my DTM, but never got used to the v shaped neck. Do they make a rounder neck profile now?

When I was speaking with Dave he said they'd do whatever you want.

Definitely not a V-shaped profile on my SC. I did order my custom the same but going to have it with a satin finish on the back end/neck. Will probably get some fine grit and get some of the coating off this one. Can't be having that neck-stiction with too much clear-coat.

very cool...when I bought mine (5 years ago) all of the std SC's and DC's came with the v shaped neck

Not trying to hijack Steve's thread, but I love this. Kind of a Richie Sambora feel:

Think I need to sell one of my VHT Classics and get a DTM.

I am obviously out to f'n lunch cuz I'd never even heard of these guitars before this thread!! Beautiful ax Steve!! I am not too keen on the headstock's physical design, but I am stoked about the straight-string-to-post functional design. I think that's where a lot of Lester's tend to have a weak spot with their tuning - the angle stress of the strings once past the nut towards the heads. Graphite helps - a little pencil lead on every string change.

But aside from the tuning issues no more - how do these play differently than a Lester? I'll do some research into these as a) I like the fact I've never heard of them before, b) everyone here who has talked about them says they kickass, and c) headstock aside, they look beautiful!

Peace,
V.

Dave builds them in the backwoods outside of Charlotte NC. Him and Dave Mansel. They are KILLER guitars... I have had a few in my time, but when I got divorced they all got sold and i havent been able to snag another....yet.... I had a serious McNaught addiction going for a while and have owned close to a dozen of them I would bet. The VSC and string through Pheonix are my favorites from him without a doubt

The one that belonged to Sharkdiver is the orange one in this picture. I traded it to him, then 6 months later bought it back from him, then ended up having to let it go.

Good shot of his headstock

wow did a little light go off   i was watching a country awards show the other night and i thought i knew what guitars the guys were playing until i seen the headstocks ..i couldnt see the head close enough to make it out, till now...id be willing to bet that they were mcnaughts, and that would make sense as the guitar company is from nc  beautiful instruments, someday maybe ill get to play one

I hadn't been a fan of these until I saw your new one! Nice! Post more pics!! Is that a candy teal top? It almost looks metallic.

mine? its a real dark blue/teal but not metallic. with the camera flash though, it probably picked up on something making it look that way.

FAAAAAAAAAAAK

Thanks Steve. There goes another few grand in the new year... :aww:

I'll let you know what I think - they're definitely piquing my curiosity. Which typically means I'll have at least one within no time

Peace,

Just to wet your chops a little more, here's the second DTM single cut with a flame maple top....

Great.

Just what I need :aww:

To justify buying 2 because, well c'mon, don't ya know - ya gotsta have a single cutaway AND a double cutaway. It's, you know, like, mandatory.

Bank account. Funds. Future acquistions. Faceplam

I have admitted I have a problem, that's the 1st step. But I really like my problem :D

Thanks Sheik Steve, gorgeous axes...seriously beautiful looking axes

Yeah, but I have sold 7! I am doing good with the "gear down-sizing" program as far as guitars go. Net-net on amps though, I am not doing worth shit. I think I ended up with more and not quite sure how that happend....

Beano strikes again.

Here's my McNaught sans the typical fancy McNaught appointments. Very tall stainless steel frets (took a while to get used to), Rio pickups, and stays in tune!
