Anyone familiar with Morris amps? I'm checking out their Perplexed and Producer models and they sound damned good. Just another boutique builder or do they have a staple?

Hey ubermetaldoode,

I've been using Morris amps for years now and i'm quite good friends with Glen
Morris, just for full disclosure :)

I've always thought that Glen's name should be up there with all of the awesome builders
out there today. He's that good and really ultra dedicated to his craft. I've been fortunate
to learn a ton off him in the last few years.

To answer your question, he's been around for a while in Canada...pretty much a staple.
Lot's of Canadian bands have used his amps: Finger 11, Metric, Dallas Green, The Trews, Billy Talent etc..
Recently he designed an amp for Joe Perry called the Mo-Jo. Monster Truck and Survivor are using em too.

All of his stuff is handwired, really well built and made to sound 40yrs old :) Definitely and vintage vibe to all
his amps...I can speak to the Perplex'd as i've used it on a ton of gigs, sessions, demo vids etc and the Eruption
clip thats on his site.

It's a 50w, EL34, 3 channel head. Clean, rhythm and Lead channels share an eq but are voiced different, gain switch, FX
loop, and covers most of the iconic Marshall type tones.

Sorry for the novel, just a big fan of Glen and his amps :)

For anyone going to Nashville NAMM swing by the TC Electronic booth, i'll have a Perplex'd on display along with
all of our fine pedals

Cheers,
Russell

No, on the contrary, that was a great response. Thanks for taking the time to inform me. Everything sounds good from the build of the amp to the video/audio. His amps are a considerable investment for me, so I have two concerns at this point: 1. His products haven't been consistent over time 2. used/resell value is poor.

One of the marks of a stable builder is their consistency. I can understand that his products/business are evolving, but perhaps the absence of discussion about his amps around the internet is a result of not keeping consistent core products. As for used value, I can't even find a past or present auction for a Morris amp on Ebay. I'll take a huge loss if I get it and it's not quite a good fit for me.

I love that he posts a variety of videos on Youtube to listen to, but then again, all of the videos are posted by Morris. I haven't been able to find videos from common users. I'm aware of some of the celebrities who use or endorse his amps, but I have yet to run into something about a Morris amp without having to dig for it.

So on one hand, I REALLY like what I hear and see. I also like the reputation from people who have used them. However on the other hand, it's safer to go with a staple brand like Soldano or Bogner or something.
