Well Cats... Interesting time in my guitar playing life.

As many of you know, I'm a 100% Diezel fanboi - LOVE their wares. Love 'em. I've got a Hagen, and it's totally off the hook - I really dig it. I've had a couple VH4 heads, as well, my most recent, a VH4S, which I'd sold to a traveling musician who's coming back month end to retrieve his amp. So in short, I'll be down to my one Diezel - the Hagen (which is more than adequate, don't get me wrong).

But the plot starts with me already distressed that, hey, I won't have a VH4 in my arsenal anymore. Soon it'll be gone. And this had be thinking, "well, maybe it's time to check out the Herbert again...". And of course, this also gets right back to me thinking "maybe I oughta just get another VH4, the mono version which I actually preferred over the "S" version". So, imagine this - after all my backhanded chitter-chatter about the VH4 versus the Herbert, here I am, actually in this very predicament!?!?!

Go figure :dunno:

So Gents? I guess in short - I'll be keeping you posted as to which amp I once again decide to settle on

You know what to do Mo. There comes a time when we must all choose between what's right, and what's easy. I know you'll do the right thing and get the herbert.

Go for the Herbert - itll be an interesting change!

The amp utterly screams.

Sometimes it's hard to accept that the search is over. Once you're happy with an amp, you should stick with it and focus your precious thinking power on making music and having fun. So get a VH4 and be done withit.

Mo thinking about getting a Herbert - in other news, pink piglets were seen flying by and reports from hell claim rapid temperature drops below zero, situation unclear! :D

I say VH4 over Herbert
But if you can get both of them that would be nice too :)

Please understand men, I'd had the Herbert for about a 3 month period some years ago and it didn't gel with me. I know my tastes have changed, I really dig the slipperiness of the Hagen, and I don't need my "other" Diezel to be like this. The VH4 really has the tone and the punctuation. It's very present. The Herbert? Could be new ground revisited.

The D Moll?

The Herbert is super versatile. Check out Andy Wood's demo. He covers all kinds of stuff with the Herbert. It must be in the feedback to the player. So many great tunes with either.

Andy's done a mega good job of flying the flag for the Herbert... But Andy's skill is also something that needs to be noted here, as is his familiarity with the Herbert and conjuring sounds from it. The VH4 has that "3D rubbery metallic" tone to it. The Herbert, in its finest fashion of Ch.2/+ mode-mid cut, is a scooped chugga beast with a little more looseness. My Hagen has the looseness. It's got the chimey Ch.1 clean. It's greasy. The VH4 is tight and surgical.

The D-Moll is too elusive and scarce in information for me to take note at this time.

It's between the VH4 and the Herbert - which to pair with my Hagen... Hmmmmmmmm.

My '08 VH4 is off the hook good that its never parting from me, that being said i did love the Hagen and have yet to try a Herbert......
Only solution is to get them all......admittadly easyier said than done tho lol

I stand corrected...

I'll eventually like to have both, the Herbert and the VH4. But honestly, my love for the cut, vibe, precision and 'bounce' of the VH4 is hard to deny.

Decisions decisions

If you have the cash for the VH4 scoop it up! There are a few Herbert's for sale at very good prices right now so if the lower price Herb is better for your wallet I'd say go for the Herb.
