Never tried the SE, and not trying to pimp the Herbert, but the power sections of the amps have a major impact on low end. I'm skeptical the SE could compete with Herbert in regards to over all low end/tightness. Preamp gain sure, but that's only half of it. I'm commenting out of ignorance though, I've tried every other amp mentioned in this thread except the Engl.
