Most brutal metal amp ever

I think my feeling of Brutal is different. Big Low end is not brutal if there aren't mids and top end that just breath fire or have some serious growl. A lot of modern amps are all about big lows but soft mids. They sound big but not brutal. I was jamming on a Mark V today and got some sounds out of it that I thought were petty fucking brutal. That is a mean sounding amp (with the right pickups)

If a boost is OK I would say a good JCM800 with a pedal is tops for me.

Im going with Axe FX II!

Definitely the most brutal computer.

For most brutal amp, I'd go with the Engl SE....and I owned a Herbert for four years. Also the reborn Mesa Triple Recto boosted would fit the bill.

The Rhodes Colossus sounds phenomenal with lower tunings. For a bit extra edge and attack I engage the FX loop (with no effects) with its volume slightly higher than the channel volume, seems to hit the power amp harder.

I 100 percent Agree... Big Low end doesn't mean shit,
How the hell can a big woofy bottom end be brutal? Brutality is all in the mids first, then highs. For the life of me, after being a Herbert owner in the past, I can not see why that amp gets mentioned in this category. Absolutely huge sounding? Yes. Thickest sounding amp ever made? Ok yea sure fine... But brutal? Naw, not by my definition. A 5150 will walk on it period for brutality by my definition. It's midrange is much much softer, and scoopier for sure.

I thought a Plexi was the answer for all amp questions?

So, if 5150, why not the original it was copied after? ;)

Really surprised Fortin hasn't been mentioned. :gethim:

Uberschall = Brutality Maximus and actually sounds good when set to stun.

Since so many "brutal" recordings were done with the 5150 and the Recto, I'd probably start there.

Yup. I prefer JCM800's over Uber's or Herbert's of th world although some may still think it sounds vintage. I'd still stick with JCM800's or Mark series Boogies. SLayer and Master Of Puppets anyone? And I've played the Diezel's and Bogners and I still think a early Recto with a Maxon 808 beats them for the heavy. Just my opinion.

Any thing Fortin designed or Rhodes designed. Have clips to prove it. Those don't won't need boost. I still want to try the Diezel Dmoll.

Classic is the 5150 with the boost, and a 2203 with a boost.

For the life of me I don't get the 5150 thing at all...I had a block logo 5150 when they first came out and I got rid of it before 6 months passed for the VHT Pit Bull Classic. I know Machine Head uses 5150s (and 6505s) for quite awhile now, but they didn't on their first record...what did they use on that ?

We should get Lasse Lammert to comment on this... or Ola...

WOW that rhoads colossus is a F*ucking monster... definatly the most brutal amp ive ver heard.. and it also has amazing note definition no mud at all just straight up killer gain how much do these amps run?
-mp-

I second the Rivera K Tre. I boost mine and can't imagine anything more brutal.
