Kirk is using a rackMount dual rectifier you can see it in the making of video for Hardwired
 
I have listened to this song several times now and REALLY dig the structure and chorus.

Tone isn't what I want to hear from Hetfield, but when I want that tone these days, I play it myself :yes:

Can't wait for this album.

For all of Lars shortcomings, no one else could accent James's riffs in the same way. It's a very distinguishing Metallica trademark thats been there from day one & something that otherwise better drummers may not do as well.

Ozz, the Crunch Berries amp made decent comeback on the Death Magnetic album too.

It sure doesn't sound anything like the MOP or Justice era live or studio stuff.

And I still think his tone sounds bad. Too dark and muddy. If you dig it cool.

I thought it was pretty good. Some cool in the pocket grooves, Lars is keeping it together ok and it sounds fresh enough. My only complaint is that it might sound a bit like Trivium but Trivium has sounded a lot like AJFA many times so no biggie.

Kirk... Oh sweet Kirk he tries so hard!! I shit in the guy too but I do it because I think he should know. The guy does have horrible vibrato and always has but he used to write some cool lead breaks and clearly someone was able to coax some good material out of him. How is nobody doing that now?this makes 2 horrible leads with terrible endings. They just pitter out. The fucking wah again ... It all sounds like shit when you do not know how to use that pedal properly. It also covers up poor picking and sloppiness. I guess I just don't understand how a Satriani student wouldn't experiment with something outside of the pentatonic box.

Pretty much this.

Except I liked Re/Load. It took balls to put those albums out and I don't think Kirk is all that bad. He is a riff machine.
 
I like the solo, I think it's fine even though I'm tired of kirkwah, at least it doesn't sound shreddy.
I wonder what his solos would sound like without it.

James hasn't used a Mesa Mark amp in about 20 years.

James' main amp for the last 10 years or so has been the Diezel VH4... much darker, more bass, compressed tone compared to a Mesa Mark. They sound very different. Occasionally a Triaxis preamp to Mesa Strategy poweramp.

What was this that he was using for a while? It looks like a Stiletto but of course everyone thought it was some custom Mesa. Who knows?

The songs they do now sound like songs young guys who worship them would play not being as good players as the band they worship.

The actual song is just OK but is suffering from a big disservice of the guitar sound. Imagine a nice thick tone with that djunk edge to the attack and it would really elevate these songs. I dont get their approach to guitars at all in the last 10 years. Its a soft edged tone, not all that thick that really lacks authority and energy/power.

And last, people who always retort with "who's your band" or lord a band's financial success as a measure of quality can go suck a dick. If someone who dislikes a big band has to post their music or band to justify themselves then so do people who love the band. How can I take your positive opinion seriously without a reference of your artistic merits.... Brah!
