Hello all:

I have seen the bridge listed as 8.8K but can't find any specs on the neck - anyone know?

hes just slow about responding sometimes, the best way is to call him.

Well, I finally got my multi-meter working and they measure as follows:

Bridge = 8.4
Neck = 7.4

Sounds like I got the wrong set doesnt it? I thought this was supposed to be a calibrated 8.8K(bridge reading) set?

Sounds pretty normal to me!

Usually in a calibrated set, the bridge pickup will usually be hotter than the neck pickup to keep things balanced.

Right, but everything I have read including the site I purchased these from say "8.8K calibrated set." I just want to be sure I didn't accidentally get a lower wind/different model.

Call Wade, I just spoke to him yesterday about an order I am placing and he seems very cool to deal with. I might be wrong but I believe the bridge pickup is going to be a little hotter than the neck. Even in a "matched set"..

Those specs are right the neck is always weaker. Dave

Calibrated set means that the neck is designed to fit with the bridge. If what you were expecting was two 8.8k pickups then that would not work out to well, the neck pickup would be a good bit louder. For example, a calibrated set of Nailbombs from Bareknuckle measure at 16k bridge and 10k neck.

Guys - it's not the fact that the neck measures lower than the bridge - that's a no-brainer, I get that. :)

I am concerned that I have seen the 2nd degree set listed as an 8.8K set, and the bridge I have measures at 8.4K. I just want to be sure I have the correct set. Someone on the Metroamp forum said his measured 8.6K...so who knows. I just figured you guys would have some insight, as this set is immensley popular right now. I assumed this was a hotter wind than the regular Black Belt and Wade's site says that set is 8.6K, so again...the 8.4 measurment on my bridge concerns me.

Being that they are hand scatterwound Id say that 8.4 is within tolerances for an 8.8 pickups. wade also audtions pickups for sound as he makes em so that may have been the sweet spot. remember no two handmade pickups will EVER sound exactly the same.

My latest motor city pickups actually measure a bit hotter than advertised.

Id say don't worry about it. even potentiometers resistors and capacitors can be as far as 20% off spec and be considered within tolerances.

Well, they go in my R9 this week - full tone report to follow! :rock:

Nice, Ive been lazy and just order the tighter tolerance (more expensive) CTS pots.

lately Ive been gassing for a 2 meg pot. I think im gonna do it, should boost the output of the guitar and more the resonant peak higher to let all of the highs thru. Im a firm believer in getting all of the signal from the guitar to the amp and tone shaping from there. I would wire directly from the pickup to the jack but i need a volume knob every now and then.

very cool find!

i didnt know philly had a guitar show, i have got to get down there sometime.

I live in hunterdon county in a tiny little town called bloomsbury ten min from the delaware river. nearest town you might know, clinton or phillipsburg.

sorry! its really hard to contain the gas sometimes a little leaks out in the wrong thread! :lol: :LOL:

I feel your pain, why do you think I just purchased these 2nd degree blackbelts! ;)

And by the way.....

I absolutely love how still........ absolutely no one knows what these typically measure.... :D :D :D :D

Dude, just put 'em in and rock 'em out! I honestly can't remember what mine measured.....I'm almost positive they were less than 8.8 though on the bridge. They rock though......I'm sure you'll be pleased.
