Hey All,
I'm currently uploading a youtube video, but it's some B.S. "read only" mode tonight, I'm not sure if I'll even be able to link to it until tomorrow at this point... which is pissing me off considering I just took the time to made a damn video... but anyywayyyyy
Big thanks to Wade at MCP he was super helpful with answering all of my questions, I ended up picking up a pair of used Afwayu's off our gear classifieds page, and sent him and email to let him know I didn't totally waste his time, and he was really happy that I got his pickups and wanted to hear back what I thought about them. I found this was really great of him, considering a lot of companies I have dealt with really don't give a damn about their customers (big ones that is, and some smaller too occasionally) but especially if your not buying NEW if they don't see the $$$ in their pocket your a waste of time. So definitely worth mentioning how great he's been to me!
Onto the pickups:
How best to describe these... They have a lot of harmonic content, very clean and articulate but some how still very fat at the same time, if I had to make a comparison it would be like a more open clearer Air-Norton but dramatically better, if that makes sense, they still have chime but it's a little rolled off so it doesn't become harsh, they clean up GREAT even on stock LP wiring in comparison to the 498/500 ceramic pickups, and they are tight but still have plenty of bloom and richness to the tone. The reason I compare them to an Air-Norton is because they do have that kind of "airy" quality to them but I don't feel the notes get lost, or muddy like the Norton, so while thats the closest thing I can relate them to, they blow the Dimarzio's out of the water.
I'm still tweaking pickup height, but I think I've got it dialed in for the most part. The most immediate thing I noticed right off the bat is that I was able to dial in more treble on my amp, because while the high end was there and crystal clear, it wasn't all harsh and nasally. It's what we all expect from a good pickup, the cool part about these, is I feel they fit me absolutely perfectly style wise. They are modern for sure, but at the same time still have their roots kind of in the old school, it's almost a layered sound.
Well my video just finished uploading.. I'll link it in the thread as soon as youtube gets their shit together... assholes.
Thanks again Wade and hope this helps you guys out!!
Edit: Vid added.
