Motor City Dragon Suit Pickups?

JUst for argument; what could be so good about these pups that Seymour or Dimarzio haven't already thought of??

Dimarzios are for guys that consider riffs to be something they play in between solos and Duncans only sound good in Les Paul's/Mahogany guitars and EMG's sound the same in a 2x4 as they do in a $2000 guitar.

You'd be surprised at what big pickup makers haven't thought of.

I have to call bullshit here. If you can't find a pup from everything offered by Dimarzio or Duncan or other moderate size builders, then you are chasing your tail and playing a game with yourself and them. I'm sure the small guys have pups with different nuances but this isn't ground breaking science or technology. If anything it's the opposite: snake oil.

I'm not dumping on the smaller manufacturers but to say they are sooooooo much better than the big guys is marketing hyperbole and believing what you want to believe because you want David to beat Goliath. And these Goliaths started out as David.

FYI have pups from Wade, Bare Knuckle, Dimarzio, Lollar, Duncan, Zhangbucker, PRS, Gibson.

These pickups are amazing, & yes they are the best, period. No questions asked. Wade is not only the best pickup maker in the world (to me), but he is also one of my favorite people as well.
As far as folks out there saying there are no way these pickups could do anything that the big dogs haven't already done, that it is a David Vs. Goliath thing...sure, you go on & say that, think that...right on, you are entitled to your opinion, please by all means play those pickups & I will continue to love mine.
Dave, Kenny & myself just heard my new Dragon Suit neck pickup in person today...& it slays.
So I suggest everyone/anyone who has a gripe (whether about pickups, marketing or websites), keep on griping, & I...will keep on playing.

I've bought several sets of pickups from Wade and all of them were very good. I've played Duncans, Dimarzio, Bare Knuckle, EMG, WCR, and a few others. I stuck with Motor City's because of Wade's customer service and I think that his idea of what guitar pickups should sound like is closest to my idea of what guitar pickups should sound like. I'm happy with my Motor City's, but I liked my Duncans and Dimarzios too-nothing wrong with those pickups.

I had a Fender Relic Tele and I wasn't crazy about the stock pickups. I asked Wade if he could wind me a really hot tele bridge that still had that twang to it and a neck pickup that sounded like a P-90, I also asked him if he could age it so it matched the guitar and he hit the nail right on the head the first time in both tone and appearance.

I made a similar request on my '81 Les Paul Custom. I wanted to replace the pickups, but I wanted it to look like they originally came in the guitar. Not only are they great sounding pickups, but they look like they came in that guitar from the factory-the aging was spot on including the gold adjustment screws.

Wade's always treated me well, so I'll keep buying pickups from him. Sorry to hear that a few others haven't had the same experience.

I have a set of 2nd Degree BB's in my LPC and they are great. Almost as good as my custom ordered set of Arcane pickups.

I have the same Motor City pup in my Luxxtone strat and it's a darn good pickup. But I KNOW that dealing with Jerry and Dave of Arcane is going to be exceptional and the product superb. I've had deals with David going back years and that man is the definition of responsible, respectful, and class.

It is a knock off of Gibson T-top pickup which Page used. Dragon suit= Jimmy Page

You must be thinking of the T-Wreck. It’s like a slightly beefier T-Top with more punch. The Dragon Suit is a hotter pickup with hefty lows, pronounced mids, and slightly rolled off highs. Both are great.

His web site hasn’t accurately displayed his product line for years. It’s kind of baffling that he doesn’t at least update it with current models. Nice guy, great winder, not so great businessman.

life doesn't necessarily require conquering the world for everyone. There are lots of people that side stuff because they like it. Once it becomes a job, it's no longer fun. It's likely his way of keeping his business manageable.

Alex from Wizz pickups (best PAF clone) only opens up his web store for a few days at the beginning of each month. Once he gets his quota for the month he shuts down the store. The reality is that musicians are flakes and prema donnas and it's a hard industry to sustain. I've found that some of the best builders are not businessman, and alot of companies are successful but deliver little from a design and quality standpoint.

I don’t necessarily disagree, but most folks don’t even know what pickups Wade makes these days. Developing a product line and then keeping it largely a secret is certainly an unconventional approach.
