I was quite pleased to find all the posts here about different Motor City pickups. Seems there are quite a few members here that have tried different models.
Per a recommendation from Wade I believe I am going to buy a Detroiter bridge to try in my Les Pauls, but I also have an EBMM Axis that I have been fighting with a bit and might just order up something from MC for that guitar right away too.
The stock DiMarzios are very hot and they are just too compressed, muddy, and flabby on the low end to me. I could never get them to cut through and the notes just have no punch. I put a Guitarforce Rockdriver in and it made a lot of improvements, but I'd like to experiment some more. The Rockdriver is fairly hot as well.
For those not familiar, the Axis has a basswood body with a maple top. Maple neck and fretboard and has a locking non-floating Floyd Rose system. It tends to be on the brighter side.
The bridge position is 53mm while the nick is 50mm. I know Wade can do the 53mm spacing for the bridge, but it also requires short leg base plates as the pickups mount directly into the pup cavity.
I play an FJA modified Marshall DSL50 into a 1960 cab w/V30s and G12H30s. Looking for something well balanced with some mid range growl and snappy lows. The Marshall has plenty of gain on tap so I don't need it to drive the preamp, but its fine if it does a bit as long as its not too hot where it compresses the tone as I like it to be thick, broad and deep....kinda 3D like I guess.
Hoping to chat with Wade a bit soon, but interested to see what some of you may think.
