Looking to swap out the pickups in my Jackson Custom shop soloist (Alder body, maple neck thru, ebony board, floyd rose), I love the Bare Knuckle Holydiver in this type of guitar but wouldn't mind giving MCP's a go. My main amp is a Friedman JJ-100 and this guitar will be tuned in E standard. Hard rock, old school metal type stuff.
Anyone have any suggestions? Motor City or others?

Motor City Solutions can do it all....Really well.....I know, I have them in my LP and they're fantastic pickups....They growl and snarl but can purr too....GOod luck!

Thanks for the replies! Also thinking about MCP Hotheads, anyone have experience with those pickups?

Alder, maple, ebony, is it a bright guitar? If so, Afwayu all day long.

Definitely on my radar! I kind of worry that the Detroiter won't be hot enough for me, although the JJ has plenty of gain on tap.

It's on the bright side I guess but not overly so. I guess the Afwayu would thicken up the tone and low end.

For heavy rock, classic metal, it’s easily hot enough. It reads around 9k I think, but sounds a lot hotter to me. I would love to get another to replace the JB in my les Paul.

I have a MCP Garuda and it's sounds huge in my Chubtone

Don’t know about the Detroiter for that model guitar. You may want to consider a Hot Head or maybe a Nasty Nasty.

I'm a big fan of both the Detroiter and Hothead. They don't sound anything alike, but on paper they would both work for what you're going for. I just haven't played either in a super strat style guitar. I have had both in the same LP style guitar, so I can give you some insight regarding their differences.

The hothead has more output, but it's not over-the-top. The detroiter hits harder than you'd think, but I find whether it feels like it has enough output will depend on what guitar it's going. I had it in one that it hit hard enough and in another (a warmer, bloomier guitar) where it needed a boost to get where I wanted it. The hothead has a little less aggressive mid range character. The detroiter has a very pissed off mid-range character. The hothead is tighter & quicker in attack, while the detroiter has a juicy bounce to the feel.

If you're worried about output, I'd lean towards the hothead. It's one of the best med-hot output pickups I've played. The eq doesn't paint you into any corners, so it's pretty versatile. It's enough push & tightness to get heavy as well. As a side note, the neck pickup is impressively clear.

Is the Hot Head even available anymore ? I don’t see it listed on MCPs website

I've had Solutions, Nukes, Garudas, Angel Dusts, and the Afwayu in my Soloists. The Solution and the Garuda were meh. They just didn't fit. They Angel Dust I couldn't stand, but A2 pickups have never worked for me. But the Afwayu is the most angry pissed off pickup I've ever heard and is absolutely perfect for a Soloist. It's hot, but not crazy hot like the Solution, Nuke, or BKP Warpig. It's like an angrier more articulate Duncan Distortion.

This..
I had a few Afwayu's in Charvels the last couple years, and they killed. If the low end is too much just back the pole screws back a little...although I didn't mind the low end. With my Alder Charvels it was a perfect match.

I have a JJ as well and use an Afwayu in my CU 24. Love it and I don't foresee removing it anytime soon...or ever lol. Fantastic pick up for that amp and what you want to do.

Have you used the Afwayu in a tuned down soloist? I don't tune uber low, maybe a step down to D. .

I've had my G&L's with Afwayus all the way down to drop B through the JJ and it was still just as great. Similar guitars to yours - maple/maple/ebony. There's a bunch of mic'd, reactive load with Two Notes, and in room camera mic videos of my setup in the YouTube link in my signature. The blue Superhawk and black Rampage are both Afwayus.

The Detroiter in my SG was gold with the JJ. Hot, tight, warm, responsive, perfectly balanced in that guitar.
