I want to replace the SSV in the bridge of my Suhr S2 with something hotter and I'm planning on giving MCP a try.

Can someone who has experience with these compare the following models to the SSV for me? (in terms of output and overall tone)

-2nd Degree Black Belt
-Blisterbucker
-Torque
-Afwayu

Thanks!
Tyler

use the search function and you'll find many threads comparing motor city pickup models.

we have discussed many model many times.

there are great comparisons by jerry from luxxtone and also some models in james lugo's pickup shootout.

searchy search! :D

Bump. Would love to hear from someone who has played through the SSV and some of the Motor City stuff.

How many pups do you think MCP has sold because of this place? Discount? :D

Yeah, well, I guess you can't have too many MCP threads.

All of them are hotter than the SSV. More drive and fatter. The SSV is great....but the Motor City's are pretty different in comparison. The 2nd Degree is closest to the SSV, but it still hits the front end of your amp harder and has more low end and much more defined string separation. Blissterbucker is close to the 2nd Degree but with a different magnet. Torque is much hotter and very full and fluid. The Afwayu is much hotter also and has a lot of low end and low mids and sounds angry as hell. All the pickups are super clear and articulate and clean up well with the volume rolled down. Too many pickups to get into massive detail about each one. All depends what you're looking for.

The SSV is much more of a P.A.F. vintage style pickup....as you probably already know. Very clear, low output, chimey and somewhat bright. Awesome pickup.

Cool, thanks for the reply! Sounds like it will probably be the Blisterbucker.

I was facetiously agreeing with your statement. :)

oh ok cool! I was worried I was the jerk telling the Op to go look for something that wasn't there, lol!

Sorry to post the millionth thread on this, but as I stated I was looking for a specific comparison to the SSV, which I could not find anywhere.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier I took the SSV out of my Suhr S1 and replaced it with an anderson H02, the Motor City Afwayus are a huge difference in pickups... I don't even know how to compare them, they are more 3d sounding, a bit more hi-fi, not so vintage, more low end, thicker... the highs are a bit more rolled off on the Afwayu's...

That's the best I can tell you, it's hard to compare because I have them in different guitars. I didn't like the SSV at all, I would say you can't go wrong with Wade's pickups just call him and ask he will help.

FYI - NEW MOTOR CITY PICKUP SITE COMING SOON.

I'm working with Wade on updating his website (I'm a graphic designer).

Look for the relaunch on May 1st.

The overall look of the site isn't changing that much, but we're going thru all the info with a fine toothed comb to make sure that the navigation is easier, the categories are better defined, and the pickup individual descriptions are, well, more descriptive!

Excellent!
I have a hard time trying to work out exactly what each model does tone-wise.

Also, I have a couple of requests...
1. Can you have separate descriptions for the neck version of each pickup?
2. Can you also include the DC resistance of both neck and bridge versions of each pickup?

Cheers mate. :)

I'll definitely make those suggestions to wade. Keep checking the site for updates, and we're doing a re-launch around May 1st.

Ended up going with the A2 Blissterbucker.

Had that one once, pretty cool for the EVH type brown thing, wound up selling it and moving to the extreme line.

wow,

I literally replaced an SSV with a Torque.

both covered.

The Torque is a TAD hotter, but very noticeably smoother with more mids and bass.

They are different, and I like them both, BUT..............the Torque is magical, and makes me solo outside of my own ability.

By all means, do the swap. It's like going from Maker's Mark to Pappy Van Winkle.
