The ol' switcharoo, that'll fix em.depends on the area; maybe in rural areas...or the steppes of Siberia?
too cold for me; I think Americans should pick a few Caribbean island countries and just overwhelm them with our numbers, like invaders are doing elsewhere, in Western Europe and North America...we can play the migrant refugee game too![]()
I know their GDP is growing, ulike ours, but I have no idea what 90 Rubles would buy you.One dollar appears to be almost 90 russian rubles today.
A couple loaves of bread per a google search result from 2022. Almost 60 percent lower cost of living.I know their GDP is growing, ulike ours, but I have no idea what 90 Rubles would buy you.
That’s true. The types of guns Russians are allowed to own are extremely limited. And carrying them around concealed is a good way to end up in a gulag. As of 2013 Russian citizens over 18 years of age can obtain a firearms license after attending gun-safety classes and passing a federal test and background check. Firearms may be acquired for self-defense, hunting, or sports activities, as well as for collection purposes.
seems more free than the UK today
Yes, the Black Sea area seems to be a popular retreat for more well to do Russians.Maybe I'd have enough cash left over from the move to open a blues and BBQ joint near the Kremlin. Really I'd rather be in Sochi because that strikes me as the only spot with none of those legendary Russian winters.
I'm going to reserve judgement as I have not personally visited either place. I will say that both have incredibly rich cultural histories and in the case of China, ancient. Ultimately though, they are authoritarian regimes, just like the united states which is a covert authoritarian regime — now starting to show it's true colors. I would probably bet on either economy's prospects over the US at this point. You can own some firearms in Russia, but there are some weird rules, like you can only handle rifles during certain hunting seasons and other stuff. It winds up being pretty restrictive.
Russia is not a great place...just because the West is imploding doesn't magically make Russia or China nice. I very much doubt their GDP is growing, I don't think the US GDP is, I do think China's is.
A great mystery for my large extended family is why my nephew is still in China, by choice. He took a job assignment there about 20 years ago (he’s approaching 50 YO) and the “temporary” status kept getting extended until we started to realize he wanted to be there. He left his entire family behind here in the US, his wife has since divorced him and only his dad ever talks with him. When I talk with him he just says “he likes it there” and not much else. You can own some firearms in Russia, but there are some weird rules, like you can only handle rifles during certain hunting seasons and other stuff. If conservatives took their money and hauled ass you'd be left with a decaying 2nd world country and undoubtedly your reps would scrambled for ways to rob the people who split after the fact once your realized that now Russia would be rising into the 1st world. Kinda like what they want to do to people who fled california for other states.MAGAs whine and call the left communists, yet they want to move to a communist dictatorship. Brilliant fucking idea! GTFO! ?
Russia manufactures military arms and large infrastructure. They have vast untapped natural resources and the biggest land mass of any country in the world — why do you think the west is so desperate to take them out and divide up the spoils? Like China, they are truly a threat to US hegemony. And together with Iran they are probably more powerful than the western bloc. As noted in the OP, they are not destroying themselves with suicidal ideologies, military adventurism and financialization. The boys that run Wall street and London are surely rich, but the west manufactures nothing except "services" and tech, which are a) useless and b) overhyped. I would take gas, oil and guns over financial asset bubbles any day.Maybe China, definitely not Russia. Russia manufactures nothing, have extreme brain drain, have no real estate they can pump, no financial sector, declining birthrate. Only thing that keeps them afloat is their energy sector and mining, which are strong, but not exceptional.
I have an old acquaintance who has been there approx than long teaching english, even married a chinese and had kids I do believe. He's always been a socialist-lefty but you def don't hear him chirping about that woke shit from his FB account, if only to avoid offending the authorities. But I truly don't think he believes that crap either.A great mystery for my large extended family is why my nephew is still in China, by choice. A point that always comes to mind; he is extremely short, maybe 5’3”….maybe he feels more normal in stature there?
But he’s American and evidently loves it there. Mystery to me.
I think it's def worth a look for Americans who are fed up. It'll be interesting to see what the full offer will look like. If the deal was sweet enough and Harris is lousy it might be tough to say no to it. Can you imagine the shit hemorrhage the left would have? LOL They'd probably hire crises actors and pretend like Putin put all the people who went there into gulags.Russia manufactures military arms and large infrastructure.
