Moving to Amsterdam. Stepdown transformers or not

I am moving to Amsterdam in December to play with a pretty well known singer from a once very popular dutch metal band. . Does anyone have experience with stepdown transformers? I lived there in the 90's and had one. I remember a lot of hum. I am hoping technology has advance somewhat since then. I have my evh 5150 III 50 watt head and an orange rockerverb 100 that i'd like to take but worried about the noise?

Am I better of selling mine and then picking up EU versions when I am there?
 
Step down and step up transformers are pretty good from my experience using them. Many of them are dual function, can be used as step up or step down. Just make sure the output is large enough 350 to 400 watt output should be fine.
 
a) if I'm not mistaken, the Orange can be run (there should be a switch on the back) at 230V, just adjust the mains fuse
b) check your tech if the EVH can do the same, probably internal wiring needs to be changed
c) balance between "buy used" in europe vs. extreme shipping costs for air shipping two heads, guitars and what you personally need. Should be easily in the 300-400$ range for two amp heads.

some other things:
quite a few venues also have stepdown transformers , but best to bring your own

if it's just for one tour , renting a peavey/EVH head in europe might end up being cheaper given shipping costs etc etc

if it's for the long haul i'd consider selling and buying an EU version of said amps,
 
I am actually moving there for good. so I am renting a sea container.
 
Man I love Am. One of my fav places in the world. Enjoy. I work there all the time. Let me know if you need a hook with any good music peeps.

 
That's awesome James.... I lived there from 92-97... made a lot of connections and have a dutch wife too.... Cant wait to get back... are you there producing? what studios do you work out of there?
 
man.. isn't the singer called Anneke van Giesenberg (Gathering)? :) I've currently seen her acoustic solo project and it was great..
 
Yes I knew the gathering when they had just started out.... she's come a LONG way and continues to get better

De tweedehands markt voor amps is op dit moment slecht. Een versterker kopen in Nederland (met 230v) is zeker een optie. Als je meer vragen hebt, laat maar weten!

Yes I work at Legacy in Hoorn. I just finished a record for a great rock band from Amsterdam named Penelope.

My nederlands in enn beetje bad op dit moment! lol
Welk stad woont u in? Wij bewegen ons in de richting van brummen die nabij zutphen. mijn oude zanger woont in nijverdal. Hij zei er is een echt goede gitaar winkel in enschede. I'll be in town December 18th, just-in-time of met Kerst.. oilie ballen!

LOL - Ik heb oliebollen vergeten! Zo slecht, maar zo goed.

Ik woonde in Nederland tussen '90-'92. En mijn Nederlands is nu ook slecht! Veel plezier met de verhuizen en de nieuwe band.
