It doesn't matter what great guitar players play through. Have fun playing around with tones, but don't forget to strive to be the best player you can be. I'd rather listen to an amazing player play through a Gorilla amp than a mediocre guitarist play through a $4000 Soldano or Kemper or whatever.

Have a great Father's Day to all you dads out there! Amps are fun but nothing beats being a dad!

  None of the above.

This was just one combination of modules I had at the time:

Here's the same rack loaded with some different modules (I had at least 8 to 10 other modules at this time that are just not included in the picture):

Rack-5262011.jpg

Then, I decided I wanted to get a little more traditional, and changed it to this:

IMG-20110716-00180.jpg

And then it all went bye-bye. I dumped the entire rack and used a couple of MOD50's for about a year. Then, I dumped the MOD50s as well.

My current amps are in my sig at bottom.

I honestly should just pick up another RM100 for nothing and then a brahma and I'd have another cheap killer JCM800/plexi at next to nothing. The only module I play is the friedman Brahma I have. That's it that's all. Probably why i like my 800's so much. One channel and overdrives.. I'm not knocking anyone going the modular route.. I just find Zep to be a funny case and too easy not to comment on. Sometimes he seems all over the place. I mean pumping up all these mods he never tried in person I found funny... saying he's downsizing to 2 Rm4's I also find funny. To each their own and you have to respect it so really, I'm just having a little bit of fun..

I'd consider an RM50 combo BUT for the fact that the effects loop are garbage on these things. It was usable with line level delay pedals but most pedals are not line level. I did not like my flashback in the loop and i don't feel like dropping more cash on a line level delay. Wonder how well the metro loop would work on this thing..probably wouldn't.

I have no hate for the MTS rigs at all. Had a blast with them. Had tons of custom modules and great tones.

If its working for ya....go for it. But thats my opinion on any amp....not just the MTS.
I never go with the flow. I like what I like. And how will you ever know if you dont like a module if you dont try it right? ;)
If you go back thru the old posts at the MTS forum.......I was really really into them.
Have fun!!

All good points...The best being there isn't anything better than being a Dad...My daughter judges modules on their look...I don't think she is alone... :)

Kapo, I also agree about the Brahma giving you a nice 800 tone for cheap...Anthony is making me a blendable Brahma and standard JCM800 module right now...I'm thinking it will be more Marshall than I will need...

MTS is a sickness and I will likely be one the other side of the fence someday...Just not any day soon...It's come close so I relate to both sides of the coin here...Matt Page's module adventures are great to me! It proves that the "street team" approach used by certain modders works very well...I also enjoy his enthusiasm about his tones...Keep 'em coming Matty!

Those are some pretty racks...Do you miss them ever?

I miss every pretty rack I have ever had the privilege to play with.

Yeah Kapo I am all over the place but as far as pumping up mods that I dont own I am merely taking input from others, I am and have been focused on two paticular modules and a 2nd RM would be downsizing for me. If i sell all the gear im trying to and buy a 2nd RM4 I will be losing 3 slots. And I dont really trust the RM100's or RM50's outside of the house.. but the RM4 ive used has never given me any inkling of an issue. And I do go a little berzerk when I find something new to me at a crazy low price. Which doesn't happen very often but when it does my brain totally goes into overdrive for that product.. cant help it I think I have undiagnosed OCD at times.. but who really cares its all about the tone...

Its great that you find me funny Kapo, Great that I can entertain you.. But I cannot just wander down to Robs place and try out every mod he has and then make a decision. Hell I think im the only MTS user in my entire state and pretty much everyone who buys new modded modules has to go on clips and feedback... I am not pumping up any modules I simply have made my choice for the next two mods that im going to purchase. If you think that its not ok for a person to get excited for some new gear then you must be a very very boring individual. And I would laugh at you in that case.

You are correct.. I am a very very boring individual and that is why I let YOU entertain me  I also think you cannot make up your mind about anything and that is why it changes so often. In one thread the quickmod is awesome..but probably needs some dialing in, the next, it is a POS for example. The Snakebite is the best module out there.... based on what people are saying on the forums.. but it has a great faceplate!!! Get where i am going with this? Your GAS entertains me. That said, after hearing about how much you loved your DSL, I almost considered trying one out locally. Your enthusiasm might in fact be contagious..

Nah. They're nice eye candy, but they are also a pain in the ass and murder to move around to gigs, rehearsals, etc. Not to mention, look at how many knobs I had to worry about on that thing. Set up and soundcheck was ridiculous.

I am much happier now with heads and pedalboards. Simple, straightforward, quick to set up, not spending endless hours tweaking, worrying about level-matching across multiple preamps/modules, etc.

Lol thanks man, you saved me some money... though to be fair, the glorified single channel sounds pretty good in the demos and clips to me!

Yeah they do Kapo, I have only played the old original JCM 2000 Dsl and it sounded good but it has shared EQ which i cannot stand and as I said its pretty much a single channel amp with a couple of gain boosts and certian tone shaping buttons. But I hate to have my clean channel and my gain channel to share an EQ as i dial them in completely different. The TSL has all the extra tone shaping stuff as well as having 3 "true" channels with each having its own proper 3 band eq, as well as a tone shift (mid cut) on each of the gain channels. Both gain channels have a deep switch that i diddnt know was there and I eq'd the amp with both deep switches engaged which really thickens your overall tone but doesnt get obnoxiously deep. The clean channel also had a 3 band eq plus a mid boost... The TSL is alot more modern in the overall tone department but if you know how to set the eq you can crank out classic rock just like the DSL, but what the DSL cant do is to get into the metal genre and the TSL sounds like it was designed for high gain, the Crunch channel can get about as hot with the gain 1 oclock than the DSL can get running full out, and the Lead channel is just beastly but very articulate at the same time..
TSL's are often overlooked because there's a huge (not fan boy) fan man following and they have brainwashed alot of new buyers into getting alot less amp for their money!

Picture is of my newest piece of gear a Jackson DX-10 firestorm shown here guarding the TSL:)

As part of my pairing down of my MTS gear my RM100 was the first to go but I got a great deal, A Randall RT503H 50 watt all tube head, with all of the Biasing and wide range of tubes as the RM series. Ive been looking at these amps for about 3 years when they first came out I wanted one bad but they were a bit more than I wanted to pay and about a year ago I spotted one on Ebay and was too broke to buy it. So yesterday a dude was inquiring about my RM100 and I gave him my price and he offered the RT503 w/ footswitch and a good amount of cash. The RT503H is a smaller less backbreaking rig than the RM100 and while not as versatile as the RM100 is it has 3 great channels a Shimmering clean with a bright switch, an OD1 channel that has enough gain on tap to from old time blues to 80's hard rock and metal and then OD2 where the mass destruction lives. Should be here by the weekend, and ive got a bite on my RM50 Combo from a dude looking to trade me an RM4 for the Combo and a little bit of cash from my end. And just to amuse mr. Kapo ive got a 6505+ combo lined up for early next week:)

Oddly enough the guy who was selling the DSL looks like he had a TSL in the same picture beside it.. I see what you mean about shared EQ. One of the short comings also of the EVH 5153 mini i'd imagine.

I'll be interested in hearing what you think of the 6505+ combos. Going rate seems to be about 600$ in my area but have seen one as low as 400$!! I was almost tempted to pick it up just because that was stupid money for that amp. They seem to be a bit darker tham Marshalls but a few tweaks later who knows..

These are the clips that got me interested..

With a GE-7, killer sounding old school Lynch type tones:

Yeah Kapo the 6505+ that im getting has a quick cash deal for $250!!! of course im gonna check every friggin centimeter of it but from what the dude says it hasnt been played for two years until last week when he tested it out before putting it on craigslist and now he's holding it for me till friday. Oh BTW I am now 3/4 of the way out of MTS Traded my RM100 for a Randall rt503H 50 watt 3 channel tube head, sold my RM50 head for a very good price and sold my RM50 Combo for some cash and one of the two modules I had been planning on picking up, the PlexiTweed. My guitar room looks alot different with just A 4X12 B52 cab with an rm4 and a peavey 50/50 sitting atop it and my Randall V30 cab with my TSL on top of it... But soon enough it will have the rt and the 6505+... and still have a big wad of cash to spend maybe on a new power amp for my RM4, Ive had a couple of offers from people looking to sell RT2-50's. We shall see how it unfolds.
