Of course, I’d LOVE a German-made ‘real’ Warwick, but I’m getting ready to buy 4-string, Thumb Rockbass Corevette to basically tune exactly how Martini does (CGCG). I’m a firm believer that if you’ve got a good neck and body, the rest is changeable. The cool thing is that these come with the same pickups (MEC’s) and hardware as the high end units. Definitely check one out if you get the chance. I think you’ll be surprised how great they sound and feel at that price point.

I've been having a Rockbass Corvette $$ for years and it is an incredible bass. It has the most perfect bolt-on neck joint I've ever seen on any instrument, regardless of price!!

No joke, man! I’ve played 2 of them and they were both flawless with QC stuff. Perfect frets, finish, everything is just great. Can’t say enough good things about them.

He's playing my favourite bass brand too, the bugger - Wawrick.

I had to settle on Music Man, but much as I love 'em, the W's have always been next-level for me. Roger McLachlan, ex-LRB bassist and a Helluva-nice guy, insisted I try his Warwick Thumb Bass back in the late '80s when it first came out. He was very-excited about it, and the few minutes I played it were the best two minutes I've ever played in my life. It literally took my playing to the next level, and I haven't played as-well since. No shit! Those damned things absolutely rock.

Too bad I could never afford one.
I recently picked up a Warwick Streamer Standard for $350 (Ryan played a huge part in my Warwick love) and for being a MIC bass, it sounds like a Warwick. That same, round, tube-like tone while still getting that THWACK when you hit the lower strings. You can find them all over Reverb or Guitar Center all day for around that price. Initially, I was dead set on getting a Music Man, but then I saw the Warwick sitting there and just tapped the low B while it was hanging, the second I heard it ring out I knew what I was going to buy.

Agreed, mate; I'm sure I would be pleasantly-surprised.

Unfortunately I've run into a financial brick wall and haven't even finished buying the gear I need to complete my setup. A massive rent increase has put me in the shit. To buy a cheap Warwick I'd have to sell a Stingray, so I can't bring myself to do this, having saved for all those years to get into the Stingray side of things.

I can tell you that the minute things turn around for me (could be many years - long story), I'll be keen to add a Warwick or two without sacrificing MM.

Thank you for sharing the info, brother.

I hear ya, man. That was pretty much my situation my entire life up until 6 months ago and precisely why I was playing through a Peavey XXL head for 15 years. I totally get not wanting to sell stuff. I won’t sell a damn thing out of fear I’ll regret it later (like that fucking XXL head taking up room in my 10x10 studio you can barely move in). Everything is temporary and it’s not like the Stingray is something to scoff at! Even better is that once you’re in the position to start buying, those Warwick’s will probably be even cheaper on the used market!

Indeed, mate.

If I had other basses I'd be more open to selling the MM's, but I picked up a fretted Stingray 5 from a pawn shop (new, unplayed!) on the cheap after having hankered after a Music Man for over 10 years, and then used that purchase as an incentive to save for the fretless version, which I bought several years later. They're my two recording basses, and because they sound great and especially after all those years' worth of pining and saving, as I said, it'd make sense to grab a Warwick only when / if I'm "financial" again one day.

It's a huge bummer for me, but being a one-man band, I've always got other shit to think about and save for.

I’m in the same boat, man! I’ve been taking a break from bands for the last 3-4 years and while I’m starting to miss it, I still very much enjoy writing music in my studio on my own. Decisions are made much faster and you’re not sitting there playing the same fuckin’ part over and over and over while trying to keep 3-4 guys focused. Don’t even get me started on production arguments.

LOL Yeah, they're rabbit holes alright.

I'm almost in the same position as you but it's been a whole lot longer - 26 years since I last recorded. Friggin' health cock block to the max - heavy-metal poisoning, resulting in autoimmune, CFS and a bunch of shit.

So, been rebuilding the setup s-l-o-w-l-y for the third time after having lost it all a few times 'cause of the health<->finance relationship, and looking forward more than I can say to being able to do what you do - sit down, write, record and make those arrangement and production decisions for myself. It's gonna be epic... if it ever happens...
