Here's the story......

A couple weeks ago I ordered a new Marshall 1960BX. It arrived in a shape worse than your typical Craigslist cabs......dents, torn tolex, etc. The cab also had a layer of dust all over it right out of the box. No biggie, I send the cab back for replacement.

Guess what.....I got the replacement yesterday. It has 4-5 deep dents into the wood, ripped tolex, and yes......a layer of dust. I immediately called and asked for a manager. He told me to send pictures and he would immediately let me know how they would handle it. 24 hours later, I have yet to get a response.

I needed this cab a week ago. Needless to say......I'm pissed.

I had the same issue with a 1960BHW that I ordered. No dents but obviously had a taped up box and was dusty.

It does happen, and more frequently than what you would think. I only shop locally now.

just have them knock a bunch off like 40% , they will do it rather then pay the shipping yet again.then keep it its gonna get trashed anyway its a cab

I've been happy with my dealing with musiciansfriend. I guess it does happen :dunno:

I'm sure they'll be happy to work something out with you.

Ahh..The no hassle return guarantee strikes another ...Yeah..someone most likely gigged those cabs for 29 days, returned em...you got em. Thats my guess anyways...Alot more of that happening or...MF needed it...Called a GC and you got YES!!! Another 29 day wonder

I agree, I told them $500-700 gets you a cab like this on Craigslist. But FWIW, I have a Mojotone 4x12 I've transported for 3 years and it only has superficial scuffs....... No dents into the wood. I take care of my stuff.

Yeah - but you take care of your gear because you aren't planning on returning it in 29 days :) This happens a lot.

What I find funny is.....Everybody seems happier than a pig in shit that MF and GC offers that no hassle 30 day return guarantee until...They get something that someone else returned instead of a shiny still wrapped up talent booster whatever the fuck and cry like a fuckin bitch when..They are usually a chronic buyer/returner to GC or MF or wherever a 30 day return is offered. I'm not saying thats the case here but...Just made me think of it..

Well that's their choice to offer the 30 day return and if is sent back it should be discounted and sold as an open box not new....period.

Thats true and you are correct but.....Ain't gonna happen..Their playin the odds and hoping that they ship it and all is good and..most times it probably is even if it ain't...

And yeah..I kinda went off the rails there...Too many years in MI flashbacks....my bad.. :D

I've generally been happy with MF, but I did get a PA speaker that was supposed to be new but had obvious signs of being used. They made it right though. Just stay on them. They'll probably do the right thing.

I understand your opinion to a point. But these cabs are not scuffed up, lightly used cabs. They are deep dented, torn, chipped, and scratched. It would take a brain dead customer to believe these are new. I paid top dollar to MF because I have always used them (until now) to buy my over the shelf gear....and not because of their return policy. I only used them out of convenience and fast shipping. I could have gotten the same cab new for $200 less from a different retailer.

They could at least respond to the pictures I sent them immediately and sort this out for a long time customer.

My post was in no way directed at you at all...Was just a general statement of how the whole music retail industry is in the toilet due to yup....GC,MF etc....I miss the days of "cool" music stores but..I'm an old fuck so... :dunno: Not too many left anymore

Problem is you gotta get in line.

Had a similar experience with them a couple of years ago. I bought a Rane rack unit. First one arrived with a knob that wasn't working. Sent it back for an exchange. The second one was in horrendous condition. The case was bashed in and the front faceplate was badly bent. I returned it for a refund and haven't bought from them since.

So.... how do these get in this condition?

People buy them new, stuff them up, then return them?

Do they not have "new" ones in stock to send out to people?

Or are they sick of selling new gear only to have it returned?

I'm not following here.....

I like the 30 day return policy especially on the bigger items as it lets me try it out at home outside the commotion of something like guitar center. To completely solve this problem though all the retailers would have to do is enforce their own return policy requirement which is: Be in brand-new condition, showing no signs of wear or use such as belt-buckle or pick scratches, scuffs, dings, or scrapes on the instrument or collateral materials. If those aren't met they are supposed to charge you a 25% restocking fee so they can then sell it cheaper as an open box. For the ones that are really beat up they should just outright refuse it and return to the buyer stating - sorry, it's not in new condition anymore. It probably won't stop the abuse but I bet it would significantly reduce it.
