MXR 109 vs MXR 108 - EQ in Loop

I want to use an EQ in the loop of my Randall RM22 to have a lead boost without the coloration of the onboard boost (which adds a lot of bass and makes the sound congested and compressed).

MXR 109 has
• 6 bands
• +/- 18dB per band
• Standard 9V operation
• No extra Gain/Volume slider
• 79,- RRP

MXR 108 has
• 10 bands
• +/- 12 dB/Band
• Extra 18V power supply
• Separate controls for gain and colume
• 139,- RRP

Questions:
• Does the 18V power supply of the 108 make a difference in clarity/headroom?
• Do the separate gain/vol sliders of the 108 add significant benefits?
• Do they both equally work in a loop or is one better than the other for that?
• Other manufacturers/alternatives better results?

I like the idea of the smaller/cheaper unit that uses standard power (109), but tone goes over convenience obviously.

What say you?
 
I like the added flexibility of the 108. Sounds great, doesn't really color the tone all that much for an EQ pedal.
 
For the loop, I would choose the 108 everytime.
 
The level slider is key. I would go with the MXR108. Or the Danelectro fish and chips EQ.
 
So you guys think the 109 would not work in the loop because it doesn't have enough level? I could also adjust the level on the 109 just shifting all sliders up or down, right?

On the other hand I guess I could make a serial cable to get two outlets of the PP2 to give me the 18V for the 108. Maybe it is the better option after all.

Any of you actually compared the two in the loop of an amp?
 
It depends on the amp. With my Fish and chips eq it works great as a solo boost in the loop of my Marshall 2553, but does not work well in the loop of my Mesa mark IVA. The level slider for me is a must have feature, especially if solo boost is my main use for it. If you were just eqing the sound a bit and left it on all the time, the level slider would not be really needed.
 
Detox looks nice, but what kind of headroom does it have, how many dB per band, will it be able to deal with a hot loop or isn't it more designed to just run in front of an amp?

Not sure really, just thought I'd throw another one in the mix.
 
108 is the king of all Eq's for me. It works great up front or in the loop. You cant go wrong with it.
