MXR M66 Classic Overdrive Pedal

Has anyone tried this pedal, its a guitar center exclusive only,I spoke to the people at MXR and they explained to me that its the exact same pedal as the MXR GT-OD pedal.

Is that the same as this CL-1 Classic Overdrive? If it sounds like the GT-OD, then it's a steal at $29.99. Maybe it's the same design with cheaper components.

Just searched some more, looks like MXR re-housed the Distortion III as the "classic distortion" and the GT-OD as the "classic overdrive" as you stated, and sold them for $30 for a black friday special last year. But if they're still available I'm gonna pick up the od next week.

I wondering about these (classic distortion and od) for boosting. Has anyone been able to compare them to the Maxon OD808?

I got the dist 3 (red box) last year.... may get this one too!
The d3 is nice on its own, smooth dist, smoother than a boss dist, orange box. good and gainy.
As a boost nice even response. My laney aor loved it, hated the monkey. The dist and tone are pretty colorless when added into the boost. The monkey for example caused freq freekout in the Laney.

I just tried the MXR M66 Classic Overdrive in front of my VHT Deliverance d60h and it was horrible,it made the deliverance sound like crap,so,i need to go back and try different pre-amp tubes again,im using JJECC83S pre-amp tubes in my deliverance,any opinions out there what pre amp tubes to try to add grit to my sound.

I got mine yesterday. Ran it into my DSL and I like it alot. I will A/B it with the 808 tonight. Seems pretty much like the same pedal to me but I haven't used them side by side.
