As Jer was talking studio revamping and cool desks, I thought I would post a picture of my "custom" rack . Seeing as I essentially lost the studio in the basement to additional living space, I decided to make a rustic looking rack on wheels that I could wheel in from the storage area of the basement when I want to record. I tried to match the desk I share with my wife (space is at a premium in our 1200 sq foot house) so that when it all stayed hooked up for a few days, it wouldn't be an eyesore. Unfortunately, I had to take down all my acoustic panels and bass traps for optic reasons but I have to admit that I really like the finished basement colour, lights, and small sectional we are setting up. It looks sharp. All my big amps and cab can stay in the storage area and be hauled out when needed. With a bulging disc in my back I haven't been able to play drums for over a year so the argument of keeping my kit up also went out the window. The agreement is that I can set it up whenever I want but not sure it will move out of the corner more than 2-3 weekends a year when I try to lay down some tracks. In a perfect world I would have a huge man cave and a big house but we like city living and I am 15 min from work while my wife walks to work. I will take that over traffic and an hour + commute any day.
The rack was built from clearance pine that admittedly was horrible quality but I beat it up, stained it, clear coated it and made it work. I measured everything more or less and this is what I came up with. Also notice the Myasnikov Superlead (SLO lead channel clone) preamp that actually made it from Russia in perfect condition in under two weeks! Very happy about this one.. through the metro loop of my 82 JCM800 and EL34's it is bitchin. Preamp gain about 3-4, and it is a detailed crunchy fat rich tone. Check out his stuff if you haven't already! I will try to make a few clips in a few weeks once I dig out all my cables.
PS- BladeZ ain't got nothing on me seeing as he puts cup holders in his head cabs, but I put bottle openers on my rack(s)!
