We (Something Involving A Monkey) opeened up for the local giants, Mushroomhead tonight. We showed up the the gig early, and it was already packed. We got in and set up. We played first on the main stage in Peabody's in Cleveland. The show went well.
We played to a few hundred people. I played poorly, but we did well as a band. My guitarist and I wrapped ourselved in Christmas lights as a cheap gimmick (Praise be to my Decimator). We had a very positive response. We sold some merch. Everything was fine.
As the show went on and filled in, we loaded out all of our gear. We all helped take all the gear to the trailer. Everything was fine. We went in to watch the show and promote and sell merch.
All of a sudden, people come up to me and say they saw my drummer get carried out. They said he wasn't breathing. I worked my way out the front door and saw the ambulance. He was joking and laughing one minute, and he fell over dead the next minute. I guess the club owner himself tried CPR to save him, but to no avail.
We loaded up the merch and headed over to the hospital to see what happened. He was dead. His name was Todd Ankrom. He was 33.
