My first scum back...

Got my first scummy in today. It's an H75 8xhp 100 watt speaker.

I put this speaker in a diezel usa to replace the g12 k100 i had paired with Jensen electric lighting.

I liked the staunch response of the g12k100 but it was pretty characterless and bland.

I have been using a pillow pressed against the grill to mute the speakers one by one and compare.

The Jensen is fairly new and definitely not broken it .

I am really surprised at how similar these speaker sound. Sure they are different but not night and day at all.

The Jensen has more and crisper highs, some of this i attribute to the newness of the speaker but the scummy is a tad darker given its broken in and has more doping and a larger dustcap. The Jensen being 70 watts gives way to breakup a little bit earlier and has a slightly "fuzzier" character than the scum back.

They fill each other out very well. The subtle differences in tone and breakup suit each other. The scummy has a more interesting low mid , the Jensen a more interesting mid and sparklier highs. The scum back tightened up the bottom a bit as well.

The speakers are also so closely matched in volume it was near impossible to sense a difference.

I like the scum back but kind of surprised its not blowing away the far cheaper Jensen . Ymmv.

molten, picked the Scumback H75 100w up used, I'm guessing?

Yeah I scored it from fek here oN the forum a few days ago Jim.

I have Been going through a ton of speakers looking for my sound, yours and a s w were last on my list. I'm sure curiosity will have me try them anyway but not because I'm not happy now.

I was just tweaking a bit more and I'm really liking this combination. Your speaker has more character than most 100 waters i have tried and I like that a lot. Didn't sacrifice much for the higher power handling and tighter overall response. Lately I like mixing a 100 watt speaker with my 50 to 75 watters to add a little punch to the low mids and bottom.

I'm wondering where the j series fits in now , I'm curious to see what one of those sounds like also.

Might be a good idea to email me, as I think I have a J75 100w here. Not sure if it's an 8 or 16, and it's raining here much too hard to venture out to the storage room to check to make sure. But if I do have one in stock that's not committed to an order, I might just send it to you to tryout for a couple of weeks.

I know...asshat that I am, I sometimes do these things. So...email is in the sig below. Use it.

I haven't ignored your more than generous offer Jim!

I had the chance to fill in for a friends band and got the scummy up to live levels, I want to live With it for a while as i really liked it with the Jensen even while playing death metal. If i change my mind I'll let you know. Thanks again!

Well, the offer is still on the table, but the speaker isn't. Someone bought the one I had extra lying around here for you to try yesterday. It just got done w/FBI service, and is packed up ready to ship out to it's new owner.

But this has already been an insane week. Typically I sell $20-30k worth of speakers per month.

All of the stars must have aligned on Tuesday since I sold 50 speakers and four 2x12 cabs in one day. That was a new single day record for the company.

I guess everyone got their tax refunds, or tax refund loan checks based on what I've been seeing for the last 2-3 weeks.

Enjoy what you've got, hell, maybe you don't need to do a thing.

Jim, got any nice specials on Scumnico's right now?

Uh, no. I'm sold out of them for the next four orders. The only ones I have available right now are one Scumnico 100w 8 ohm and one 65w 8 ohm.

I had two of each yesterday...now there's one of each.

Not sure if everyone got their tax refunds, loans, unloaded gear, or what but I've had to order/ship more speakers this month than any other previous month for the last six years...and that includes Xmas sales which are usually the strongest.

I'd at least unplug each speaker, one at a time (while testing the opposite one). There's still a good chance you're not hearing enough of the differences each speaker is making with the way you're currently testing the speakers.

I'll try it out James and see if it seems different. Thanks oe the tip!
