Freaking Sykes and that MK III Coli slaved is bringing the pain like a Freightliner, Sykes is on fire and that Coli is just like the other side of the pillow  The best part though is Sykes playing though, just ripping.

Damn I gots to slave my MK IV again soon.

where u been foo???

i love it too.

Have it blasting in the bunker and the sustain is just sick, Sykes is making that guitar bleed on that album

on still of the night, that first lick (right after the first chord hang) with the pinch harmonic...siiiiiicknessss!

"Still of the Night" is one of my all-time fav hard rock/metal songs out there...still a CRUSHER,after all these years!!!

the opening "hanger" lick on the main solo of "is this love" has some major sustainage and beautiful tone.

Well you know where I stand on this subject. Another thing that gets overlooked sometimes is how strong the writing is on that Album and how complex some of the riffs can be. Go ahead and listen to what's going on in Bad Boys and really listen to the rhythm work and it will put a smile on your face. I just played that at a jam Recently and its tougher to play then you'd think

I like the guitar tone on that record, but the rest of the band, not so much.

chek that. the whole solo roolz!

John Sykes is a vastly under rated and appreciated guitarist. 90% of the time he just plays his Les Paul straight through whatever head he happens to like at the time, usually Marshall or Mesa Boogie. The MB Coliseum heads he used on the albums under discussion have Mark III pre-amps with 6x 6L6 tubes to raise the output. He used the same arrangement on the first Blue Murder album which also rips and has some of his best playing on it.

I have seen him live several times and he never fails to give on hell of a show and just loves to jam. On the Blue Murder 1st tour when they were playing Valley of the Kings they jammed for like 10 minutes on that one song. I can still see that show in my mind. Gawd I wish I had a bootleg of the show.

After you told me about you and H doing Bad Boys I listened and yeah that rhythm is very hard!!! Need more timing than I gots   With the amount of gain Sykes is using his control is damn impressive.

After learning from you and others about slaving and the MK stuff man I have zero gas for any other amp platform other than maybe some Marshall type stuff, nothing imo can duplicate that slaved MK III Coli.

The bass sounds like passives with round wound strings

one of the best albums of that era, definately one of my Fav tones and great playing.

wow! i really dig the solo to "you're gonna break my heart again"...fuk...you guys are gonna make me cry with all this nostalgia. *snifffle*

Great post.

My all time favourite solo tone is John's Is This Love solo. What I gather is the amp used for that solo was a late 70's Jose JMP 100.

Whitesnake was never the same without Sykes. Vai just didn't fit in Whitesnake, at least for me he didn't.

vaisnake never did it for me either...not sure why tho.

The concerts were a joke. All posing and crotch thrusting and nothing but freaking bass drum though the PA system. Whitesnake with Vai and Vandenburg was one of the worst concerts i have seen.
