???how???

well, different strokes n' all that.

The tone on the opening riff of Bad Boys is one of my three favorite recorded/benchmark tones. Fantastic.

I think the tone on that record is vile. If that is what a MK III sounds like I have interest in owning one. The playing on the other hand is far superior to alot of other bands of the same genre.

IMHO...87 is the best rock guitar tone ever recorded...when i spoke to john about 3yrs ago he told me that the album was one of the most proudest times of his career..

and who can blame him...with an album tone like that..so would i be!!...

At least you are consistent George and I really respect that.
George has gone on record many times with his dislike for Boogie amps and that tone is pure Boogie, so I can totally see you hating that tone.

Same here!. Definitely one of the sickest tones ever IMHO.
This thread also shows how we all hear things differently. Id never call that tone vile in a million years but to each there own!!

After years... since 1991 of playing thru Bogners, I find his tone very articulate, almost to the point of being a "little harsh" but in a good way- especially in the mix. It just fills that frequency hole perfectly.

Yeah same here Ralph! To me that tone is just unreal!

Does the Coli MKIII sound much different to the standard MKIII? Some people i spoke to said they were basically identical but the Coli had a bit bigger tone and more headroom..

That album is practically the top of the heap in terms of playing ,tone and Songwriting. Youre hard pressed to find an album in that genre and time period that is filled with winners from the first track to the last.... Sykes was so in the zone in terms of writing and playing. the album is simply epic...

The normal MKIII's can get a bit unruly when cranked to loud but the Coli versions stay tight and focused at high volumes because of the added headroom. They both have the same preamp section but the added wattage makes them bigger sounding especially when you give them some gas.
My friend Mark might be letting his go soon and its the cleanest Coli head Ive ever seen. He sent it to Mike B at boogiet o look it over and to add the v2 volume mod and and Mike B asked him if the amp had been in a closet for 20 years because he even comment how clean the amp is!!

Awesome!! Yeah that makes sense about the Coli staying tighter and more focussed
