Over a year ago, I got the bug to try my first Diezel, and went through the whole "VH4 versus Herbert" debate (no feasible option to try them out in person). I listened to all the clips, read tons of posts on the topic...and then figured it out. I'd go with the Hagen, a fine new amp in its own right, still with elements of the others. And I'd never have to think about VH4 versus Herbert again. I was so smart then.

So I got the Hagen. And laughed at people who said "eventually you need to break down and get all 3".

One year later, I am no longer laughing. My love for the Hagen has put me right back to the start...which one next, VH4 or Herbert? And of course there's no financial relief, the Hagen stays. Oh well...at least knowing both are inevitable leads to less stress this go around. I really hope I hate at least one of them though :gethim:

Evil evil Peter :)

I say vh4 oh and there's the dmoll too, by the way! ;)

Herbert but any will make you happy!

Herbert for the BROOTZ though.

I vote for Herbert :) I feel so lucky to have found one second hand on ebay and since then I haven't seen another one.

I feel your pain bro..
I've had my hagen for a year and a half and now have gas for a Stereo rig so I'm looking for a vh4S.
No way I'm letting go of the Hagen though.. I just joined an alternative rock band and the Hagen really shines.
There are so many cool tones I can get out this amp, from brutal to crystal clean. I've come to realize that there are some great tones in channel two especially with a clean boost out front.
I wish I had the cash to own them all.
Seriously, as long as I'm playing guitar I'll own at least one Diezel.. period..

I've got the Hagen.

I've had several VH4 and VH4S heads.

I've had experience with the Herbert.

My next Diezel will be the VH4, followed by the Herbert. Then maybe the D-Moll :D

Basically its like this.. you buy a Diezel... then BOOOOOOOOM!!! HOOKED, LINE, SINKER... Peter OWNS your soul cuz nothing GETS you like a Diezel amp and then you gotta have them all... ONE BY ONE... lately he has brought more amps out and another is due before this years out...there is NO MERCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Evil Peter? YES INDEED

Try the D-moll (latest) or VH4 (first). If you don't like them, then you would have to sell them here...

I'm glad I'm not alone in this

What really impresses me about the Hagen is how articulate it is, but with plenty of grit. It really shines for me for example when doing staccato arpeggio type rhythm playing (can't stand to just chug on a low note forever). Every note is percussive/brutal but with perfect clarity.

D-Moll is definitely interesting, but I'll have to hold on that, need to take care of old business before adding new business :D

The VH4 is what is in my heart. I have an affinity for the late 90's, and kind of like when you have a certain tone in your head, be it Plexi, SLO, whatever, at some point you need to grab the real thing. Plus, kind of interested in how it would sound combined with the Hagen.

The Herbert is what is in my brain, I play mostly heavy, usually at moderately lower volumes (though they will get more volume periodically), and probably just overall fits me.

Most likely will go VH4 first...gotta follow my heart! And yes, Peter, you are a very bad man

  Owning a herbert id say Herbert.
although i want to collect them all

I must say, i went with the herbert and ive been happy ever since.
Others here went with the VH4 and never looked back.

I think either way youll be fine.

Having owned a Herbert and a VH4, I think the VH4 is more versatile overall. My VH4 keeps my Diezel GAS at bay... For now :bash: :bash:

I know that at some stage in the next couple of years I will buy a VH4 again. I've got the bug!

That said...the Pitbull UL does the "tight, dry" thing pretty damn well, so maybe I don't need a VH4...

I have a VH4 since 2008 and recently got a Herbert since I got a good offer for one. Although I've put it for sale, I really don't believe i will be able to part with it. Probably keeping both then...

First world problems :-D

VH4 and Herbert here. Though, I have lately being thinking that I could trade Herbert to Hagen. With VH4, our ways shall never part!

I've owned the Hagen, VH-4 and the Herbert.... (the last two multiple times) and if I had a Hagen in my stable... seeing as how it has the Mid Cut, and INCREDIBLE cleans... I would go with the VH-4... simply because there is NOTHING like channel 3 on a VH-4... and the great cleans on the Herbert would be redundant since you already have them on the Hagen...

...I will also fully admit I am a complete VH-4 junkie so I am biased... but I love the Herbert too and have played both extensively, so I feel there is some sanity to my opinion :P
