OK, so I got my new Les Paul Gold Top on Friday. I absolutely love this guitar. I added a black selector ring, black pup ring and black/gold topped volume and tone knobs. The weight of the guitar is reasonable and what I expected. So, the guitar is not the issue.

But, the guitar case is an absolutely MONSTER! I kid you not, that case EMPTY weighs more than my other Gibson LP case WITH a guitar. The new case with guitar weighs 30 lbs. The old case with guitar weighs 16 lbs. Twice the freaking weight. It's really ironic that Gibson starting doing weight relief to their LP's because folks were complaining about the weight and then they make a case that weighs twice as much as the guitar. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! :gethim:  :gethim:

Oh, and the case looks like Spocks coffin...

The older, LP-shaped, cases look so much better too. Is there a shroud in those ginormous cases...for that "ooooooohhhhh' factor?

It is heavy but I like mine. It reminds me of a Airstream camper/trailer. :)

Isn't that case only used for specific models? I think it looks cool, but also looks like it would quickly show wear. Didn't realize it was that heavy...

... but can I load it in to my Photon Torpedo tube? This is what I need to know.

As long as it's protective I don't think I'd care that much. It does kinda look like 70's Samsonite to me though.

I think that case is cool because it allows one to safely carry the guitar as check in luggage when flying. To go around locally then one can always buy a good gigbag.

My 2016 HP model came in one of these, and I assumed it was just for HP models. But perhaps not? The case does a fine job of protecting the guitar, but it's definitely heavy and prone to external dents and superficial scratches.

Looks great! Forgive my naivety but how the heck was the pick guard attached? I see no screw hole but the neck pickup...

The pick guard is cut with short prongs that come out of the inner side. The old pickup rings have slots in them that the prongs just pop into. There's also a circular little soft pad on the underside of the pick guard that rest on the guitar body. I don't know why Gibson didn't do that design along time ago. By the way, the new style pick guard only comes in cream color...no black.

I don't know why Gibson doesn't just abandon the pick guard all together. I hate them. I've taken them off all my LPs

Agreed! I've taken them off or didn't install them in the first place.

My G&G cases are like that and weigh a ton....I'm used to it though
