Way coolio!

Can you talk a bit more about mic placement like Darren asked?

Sometimes (especially for VH type tones) a 57 dead center is what you want. That's what Ed does....

Usually though I have it right where the dust cap meets the cone. About 1 inch off center. Up real close usually.

Took a couple 4-12"s there today- a V30 loaded Randall straight cab I've had in storage for years, and a /13 with greenbacks, great cab. The Suhr 2-12" you see in the pics has a Lynchback and a Scumback h75 PVC, that cab sounds killer. And I have a couple 1-12"s with a Weber Grey Wolf, Weber Legacy, and a V30. And i have a cool custom 4-12" there with an open back and 4 Celestion Blues. That should about cover the Celestion tones! :D

I have a JBL D120 that I'd like to load in a 2-12" cab wit an EV 12L or something... and maybe something with 10's.

Tomorrow- wiring gets done! Then in 5 days, the control room tuning. Onward....

Tell you what....you got better results with that 1x12 than most guys do with 4x12's.

Thanks! It'll be fun to see what I can come up with in this space.

Significant wiring progress was made today....

cabs cabs cabs! Ready to make rock! Looking forward to recording the 4-12"s

Looks great Pete! And I second the notion that you've been getting awesome tones from your "rinky dink" closet setup... to the point that I had no idea you weren't tracking with a 4X12 in a room. Back in the late 80s I used to track to 4-track cassette with a Marshall Studio 15 in a closet and did get some great tones though.

I recently moved from my tiny "man cave" the size of a large walk-in closet to a full-sized room in the house and I gotta say... my recording output is really starting to kick into gear. Got an actual "studio setup" going now that makes it a pleasure to plug-in and click record (Cakewalk Sonar) instead of having to rearrange my old room to fit the situation I was in before. In fact, I have so much room in the new room that all of my gear lines the walls and I just bought a drum set that's in there as well! SO nice to have the right room.

Congrats on the new place. It's usually quite inspiring to move house \m/

nice room!!glad u were able to upgrade.lookin fwd to a new cd too.

btw,i have a friend of a friend of a guy who knows someone who said they thought they heard EVH mic'd a cab with a 57 but it was 1/4" off center.

I thought the same thing but was too lazy to post it.

Man that purple is to die for,.....screw the amps....

got my desk wired up, all my pres and axe fx etc... and got my tie lines into the live room up and running- 8 mic lines, 2 headphone cues and 2 speaker cables! Rockin- sounds just great. Just waiting for custom shelving/storage/patching for the amps.. and some lighting.. and it'll be all done! I'm stoked...
