Few clips of my Ozzy tribute band OZZ from our show at the House of Blues Houston from over the weekend. I was using 2 ivory EVH 5150 III 100 watt halfstacks in stereo on the blue channel with a little bit of a boost. The keyboards were too loud at first. Our keyboardist does the "Ozzy intro" so the soundman had him a bit louder at the start of our set from what we had it at soundcheck. Gonna remember to nudge my volume knob up a hair before we go on from now on. But by the 2nd verse he's got it worked out pretty well.

I picked up the 50 watt mini over two years ago and played it a little but not usually with much volume, liked the blue channel but never cared for the red. Did not play it much at all the last 2 years in favor of flavor of the month boteek stuff lol but held onto it because I got it used and for so cheap. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago and took some pics of it to make a trade that never happened. Plugged it into a 4x12 with Greenbacks and cranked the blue channel up to about noon on the volume and holy shit...this fucking thing is absolutely awesome. I never gave it a fair shot when I got it and did not give it enough volume. Volume needs to be above 9:30 for what I'm looking for but get it there and above and it rips and thickens up. Best $700 ever!

Fucking hell...Nice job and the place is packed!! You're "Ozzy" is the best I've heard.

Thanks man! Ya, it was sold out. It was insane. They had the fire marshal turning people away out front. My step brother and my sister in law couldn't get in. It was an amazing show.

I used to play the red channel for rhythms and leads because the blue channel didn't have enough gain and I didn't feel like boosting. But the blue channel just sounds so good I broke down and got a Clinch Fx Pico Pre which is an Echoplex type boost for an overall always on boost for rhythms and got a MXR CAE Boost/Line Driver for my leads. I only use the blue channel now. It's just killer. I have a Stealth halfstack too but I like using the two ivory halfstacks for the Randy Rhoads look of the amps.

So your running the green channel on the left amp and blue on the right? Are both getting the boost and how are you micing them for FOH?

Once again, sounds excellent!

Just using the amp on the left as a slave amp for my stereo fx by running my fx right out into it's fx loop return. All the amp tone comes from the other amp. The one on the left is basically being used as a glorified power amp. ;-)

Do you mic both cabs and send a stereo signal to the FOH?

You guys really have it down and kudos to you - from the crowd reaction and size, you'd think it was actually Ozzy performing in the 80s...

Steve

F yes! You killed that. I wouldn't be surprised if you guys couldn't tour around a bit on that. Well done.

Thanks guys. They just contacted us about doing another show in August and possibly going to Dallas to play the House of Blues there. Would love to get on the House of Blues circuit and hit the New Orleans, Dallas and Houston venues. Praying that becomes reality.

Yes, both cabs we're mic'ed for FOH. Sometimes instead of micing the slaved cabinet I use a Radial JDX Reactor Guitar Amp Direct Box. It has this really nice midrange and mixes great with a mic'ed cabinet. You can check one out here. http://www.radialeng.com/jdx.php

Sounds killer as always. What setting are you using on the Blue channel?

Morning bro. Basically just had all the tone controls around noon. The bass and presence were at 1 o'clock. Mids we're in between 11 and 12 o'clock. Had a chance to practice your mod with the band yet?

Have to wait until next Tuesday. Which is killing me. Lol. We basically have the same EQ settings. Lol.

Dude! Seriously stellar tone and playing bro. Great band too. I'm digging the blue channel here. I'm gonna have to try this. I love my stealth and it's become my main head. Inspiring me to get echoplex mxr pedal and try it with my 5153 original

You are one killer player! Keep it up as these clips sound great!

Lmao! Ya, that would kill me too brother. Hang in there man. with those amp settings it is virtually impossible not to cut through the mix in a live setting. On that wood House of Blues stage it absolutely thumped. It was great to actually get to open up the master volume a little bit more than what we're usually able to at the clubs where usually playing at.

I actually use the MXR Echoplex pedal on my 50 watt EVH rig that I keep at rehearsal. It sounds great. It adds just a bit of gain but does something really good to the tone. Thickens it up somehow. Think you will dig it.
