Hey guys...this is my first post here on Rig Talk. I currently have one of the new Vox AC15C1's and it is okay, but it just isn't versatile enough for me. Even though it is good for some lower gain/clean stuff, I find that it leaves me hangin' when I'm wanting to play some heavier stuff...which it is obviously not made to do.

So I've been checking out some stuff on Youtube and some other places on the internet and I was just wondering if anyone here had any suggestions for me. I would prefer Head+Cab, and I want to spend $2000 or less. I have been looking at Splawn's, Mesa's, Badcat's(a little expensive), and even Axe Fx. I would probably go over my budget if I had to, but I wanna stay $2000 or under.

I need pretty good cleans, nice thick rhythm tone, and a huge/fat lead tone. I definitely want 2-3 channels.

A used Bogner Ecstasy would definitley give you a fat rhythm tone and huge thick lead tone. Or, a used Shiva, for that matter.

You want a Diezel Schmidt, don't you see?

It's pricey - but you want it.

You probably should have a look at the new Mesa TA 30..

Did you listen to the clips from the ampfest? Might at least point you in the
right direction...

Do you have a tube type preference? 6L6's, EL84/34's? Like 50 or 100 watt?

need to know more about your style and musical preference. what you're looking for is too vague - theres alot of 2 and 3 channel high gainers out there - we could be here all day recommending biased opinions of what we like.

tell us more.

Sorry for being kind of vague...I really like 90's rock. i.e. Creed, Candlebox, Seven Mary Three...I also love Alice in Chains, Alter Bridge, Stone Sour, and even some Disturbed. My favorite tone is probably Jerry Cantrell's live tone. He uses Marsha's...those are a little too expensive for my blood.

I don't really have any tube preferences as long as it sounds good, but I would probably prefer 50 watts...although I wouldn't rule out a 100 watt amp.

id recommend one of the new 2010 model mesa dual rectifiers or a mesa roadster.

the newer revised recto's are revoiced from the earlier models. it would hit the style's and the gain you're looking for perfectly.

if you're wanting thicker lead's and less bite, go with a mesa roadster - overall better solo tone than the dual rec's.

Ah, I see. Marshall style stuff. Big fans of Dave Friedmen here

Could get a Friedmen modded Jet City.

I've never really played a Boogie that I just loved. The only one I would consider would be the new Dual Recs, they seem to be pretty good. I just can't find any clips that aren't totally scooped metal.

I'm also diggin' the used Bogner idea. The XTC sounds awesome...can't find good clips of the Shiva.

I'd reccomend a 20th Anniversary Shiva or buy an old Marshall and send it to Dave Friedman to get modded.

I'm really feeling the Splawn Quickrod and the Bogner Shiva(used of course).
Anybody have any experience with these? Pros/cons?

Welcome to Rig-Talk!!!

Both are awesome amps. If you're more on the marshall type style I'd say the splawn. Jasin Todd uses the splawn in his live rig and he has an awesome tone. I talked to him for a while at Whiskey Tango in Philly in September and he was raving about the tone he gets outta that thing. You can prob find video of him using it recently since he's been in Fuel. Not sure if he used the Splawn when he was with Shinedown tho. Good Luck with the hunt...
