Normally I like your clips but........... too much delay reverb and gain. Your tone is opposite of what the Eagles music shines at, good ol clean guitar tone with a ton of feeling. This sounds like somthing Steve Lukather would play and just doesn't do it justice. I'd like to hear you play it with waaay less gain and no cheesy vibrato. Sory mate no hard feelings.

Like I said, my take on it :). Sorry you think my vibrato is "cheesy" BTW the cheesy vibrato is just how I play, not something I just did in this song:)

I listened to your rendition of the solo from your link in your signature and I can understand why you don't like my vibrato, we definitely approach that totally different, so I get it. As far as FX I'm not as big on the sound of a phase pedal as you are, so we have different tastes in that department as well :) If everyone only ate hotdogs, dinner would be pretty boring, right?

I'm 49 and I actually like Lukather, grew up on his stuff.

No hard feelings whatsoever, everyone has different likes and dislikes.

Hotel California solo (my take). Using Suhr Modern with Aldrich pu's, OD100se+ head, CAA 2x12"V30 cab, Koko Boost.

Miked with a E609, SM57 into an Apogee Duet and Logic Pro 9.

Yes too much gain, you can butter your toast with it.

I don't even own a Phaser? I used a semi hollow body and single coil p/ups on that recording with a touch of delay. We all know how good you can play and you've done some great recordings. Just trying to be constructive here, and broaden you tonal vocabulary.

I like it dude, sounds like you doing your thing. Though if someone told me I sounded like Luke I'd take that as a HUGE compliment!

cool man good job! My cover band does this song and everyone loves hearing the solo - even though I don't play it quite as correctly as you did :)

Well to me the recording sounded like there was a phaser on the guitar, must be the mp3 quality of the backing track, maybe? Maybe I'm listening to a low res version that is the default on your clips mainpage?

(EDIT) I did go back and listen to your clip again and what I'm hearing is the MP3 conversion, there is a phasy sound in the top end, probably more from the backing track than your guitar :) It is of course far more apparent in the lo-fi version of the default on your soundclick home page.

Like I said I get where you are coming from. There are no hard feelings.
I totally get why you don't like my "cheesy" vibrato :)

Our taste in vibrato are exact opposites. Like I said my vibrato in this song is the same as every tune I do, it is the way I play.

I would probably reconsider your choice of the word "cheesy" when offering a "constructive" critique about someone's performance. You had to of noticed that that is my "thing" when listening to other clips? Too much delay, rev and gain is a constructive statement :).

Please notice the smilies.
I get it, no problems. :)

I can relate to your thoughts. Please understand that like you, I was doing my own take on the song and both our versions are TOTALLY different from the original Eagle's track.
Like you, the vibrato we used are our own and totally different from the original song.

My bending and vibrato are something I actually like about my playing and trust me there are a lot of things I don't like about my playing. Having said that, I don't plan on changing my "cheesy" vibrato lol:)

I have no problem with anything except your choice of wording :) and I really do appreciate your critique :)

Mark

Again, I reiterate, I totally get that we have different tastes in vibrato

Is it possible to post of clip of the same solo so we can get a better idea of what you're saying?

No problem, we have different tastes. No hard feelings. I was initially put off by the word "cheesy". I'm over it :)
