My tip for recording bass. You may already have a bass rig.

I just listened to your clip. Love the crux of the tone. What was the setup?

Thanks for the detailed reply, much appreciated! I have never heard of the fredman technique before but was googling it like a mofo at work, very cool. When I did mic my cab I mainly did an angle to get the bassier sound so it makes perfect sense to me. I just picked up the Waves oneknob louder just now lol, I've got quite a few waves so what's one more? ;)

My setup for my Danzig-ish song was a Gibson R7 Goldtop -> Friedman PT20 ->Suhr Reactive load -> Roland quad capture -> Reaper and using NADIR for cab loader and used a bright and dark Celestian V30 impulse response. Bass was similar but using a Rivera Tre head + ampeg 4x10 and 1x15 bass impulse response. I am actually a drummer more so than a guitarist so I used my Roland vdrum kit -> midi -> Roland quad capture -> Reaper using Addictive drums 2 metal vst.

As for cables I also use Evidence/monorail mainly and have no clue about my XLR cables. I don't EQ my recordings yet, right now everything is just a test until I'm happy with my guitar tones. So before I went to work today I experimented with doing an angle'd mic on a 1x12 Bogner cube and the other input I used my Suhr/impulse cab method and holy shit what a difference. My ultimate goal is silent recording in my apartment with real tube heads but I may have to reconsider the mic'ing thing.

Anyway thanks, I think you have pointed me in the right direction... I have a shit load of testing ahead of me ;)

my last album was a 5 string bass --> Tonehammer 500 --> Bergantino cab, mic'ed with an EV320. I was much happier with the results of this than what I got than the first go around, which was a combo of DI and re-amping (though I know others are very happy with just a DI bass tone)

I tried this last night .. works fantastic! Actually better control of performance because I can hear the notes better through the speaker. I used low input of 2204 clone, master on 3, eminence super V rated for 150 watts, and it sounds great with my crappy budget bass that was left behind at my place ten years ago. I experimented with the supro drive ( the one Pete thorn did a vid of) to add a bit of colour and a tube screamer to distort it a bit. It is dirty but awesome driven tones. Way more controlled than the fizzy plugin distorted bass.
