I am clearly no match for the infinite wisdom of you and Rogue.

Nahhh I'm an idiot. I couldn't even solve for X and Rogue is even a bigger idiot than me.

I had really hoped this thread wouldn't turn out like it did. It's the reason I rarely post anymore. I'll leave everyone with this before I go and play guitar for awhile -

The main point I intended with this thread was:

A. To give a "shout-out" to my wife who I love very much, and who has been very supportive of me

and

B. To share my joy in the upcoming purchase of a guitar I'll be making soon

Sorry for all the drama that ensued.

Mr. Willy,
I too am blessed with an awesome wife for over 25 years. I turned our family room into a guitar den with her approval and we have not used the fireplace in 10 years. She understood my need to have 2 Friedman modded Marshalls, and can deal with my fetish for 4x12 cabs. You have a good one, treat her better than she treats you and you will have a partner for life.

Ok, first off...who takes one guitar to a gig?? Not me

So here's what you do...

take the $1,500-$1,800 and go buy 2 $700-$800 guitars and leave the PRS at home

problem sloved

...and I wouldnt let anyone make you feel bad about your purchase. It's nobodys business anyhow

Now run along and go do the deed (lick lick) and throw your wife the schlong...you might get an amp as well ;) :D

We don't make a lot of money and times is tough lately. I don't have a lot of guitars either.

A $1500.00 guitar when times are tough? I don't think I get it. I'd buy a decent used guitar and maybe swap the electronics if necessary until the financial situation was better....or play what you already have... :dunno:

All these practical thinkers will drive the OP GAS through the roof
It would for me

Awesome! I need woman who would give me $1800 for a new guitar! I'd probably do 2 used guitars tho....I mean common who wouldn't want 2 sweet guitars for that kinda money! Congrats!

Yo Braddah....

I kinda skimmed over all the bullshit posts about troll this and wiki that, not sure what the hell was going on there. I just saw the thread's title, read your OP, and thought HELL YEAH, cool wife

My wife and I are not only head over heels for each other, we're best friends too - she totally digs the fact that my hobby and passion is music (amongst other things, but this is the big one). We have a budget like everyone else, and sometimes things are tough, sometimes we're rolling, but at the end of the day, we always come out unscathed. I buy gear and I use it - it keeps me happy. So ya, when our Ladies 'get' our obsessions and passions when it comes to music, it really feels good. So hats off to you and yours!!

V.

IT could be a very well made investment. If his band is out playing, it could bring in money, so having the appropriate gear is worth while. 1500 on a guitar is far from outlandish, its about in the middle to get a nice guitar, without going over the top. True you could get some nice ones a little cheaper, and who knows, he may find one that fits the bill. Times are tough for me as well, but I rely on my tools to not only get the job I currently working on done, but also need good tools to get more jobs. I think having a backup guitar is always a good idear. I do music and sound for a living, and I only have 2 electric guitars. I see people who are not even doing anything with music sporting 15 plus guitars. HA.

Don't worry about Rogue, he likes to argue about everything, and can't clearly leave a positive shout out thread without butting his opinion in somehow. Issues, seriously

Congrats! It's great that your wife is supportive of your playing!

I was that you were considering Epi's or PRS SE's. Another option worth consideration is Hamer. You can get their USA made guitars fairly cheap used, and some of their import models are very good as well. I've got a Hamer SBAQ import, and it's a very good guitar. I put some Motor City Afwayu's in and :rawk:

We were talking the other day about this new band I've started up and how I'm a bit nervous taking the PRS Custom she bought me as a wedding present to gigs. I know, I know, guitars are meant to be played, and this one gets played a lot and already has it's share of dings. She says, "We need to buy you a good guitar you won't mind carrying to a gig. Which guitar would you like?" I says, "I dunno, depends on the budget." She says, "Is $1500 good? Maybe $1800?" :D

I love her so much.

Congrats man!

To whom it may concern, Rogue fits my definition of a troll. Don't feed it. Clearly to me, if he had anything else in mind other than being an all out dick, he would have PMed the OP.

Argue? Not really. Rogue likes a good discussion. To the rest of your post especially the "issues" part that's totally ridiculous.

That fine that you feel that way, but I think you are one of the few ones who don't see how Rogue feels the need to step in pretty much everytime he posts and insert his opinion and argue against whatever is being said, even on a thread like this where the OP is praising his wife, he has turned it into an argument and crapped on it, which is tasteless and not appropriate to the OP. To feed his need to have a "discussion". I say issues because its rediculous in a thread like this to start and argument. Politics, fine, he can insert and argue all he wants, but seeing his need to do this pretty much all the time falls into issues category to me. Seems like just yesterday we were having the same discussion about Rogue aruging all the time. Oh yeah, thats right we were, why? because he likes to argue. Post a topic about bunnies, and he will find a way to crap on it and argue. Its a cancer

See since I know him personally and worked with him for about 7 years that may be the issue because from my experience he's not that type of person. It's hard to really get to know a people from words on a screen especially well enough to make such judgment calls that you just have.

I really saw his post here as offering the OP some pretty good advice but you saw it as shit stirring. To each his own.

Makes sense that you guys know each other, you seem to take his side alot. I clearly am not the only one even in this thread seeing what Rogue has done to cause strife and argue. Had the OP been asking for advice on whether or not to get a guitar, and the budget, that would be differently. He did not ask for that opinion, he was praising his wife, and yet here we are, why? Rogue. Its a shame that this thread is now 2-3 pages, mostly full of crap because of that. Clearly I am adding to it, but I am irked where this had gone and I am calling it out.

Proverbs 26:21

As charcoal to hot embers and wood to fire, so is a quarrelsome man for kindling strife.

Once again to the OP. Rock on brotha! Give your wife a big kiss and cherish her bro. Its awesome to have an understanding partner in crime, makes this life so sweet!!!!

Well, I can go and find all the posts I've made in which I wasn't arguing about something, but that would stand to negate your awesome opinion of me, and I wouldn't really want that.

I am relieved that other people have posted that the comments of OP appeared to be in contrast of a wise financial decision. I merely pointed that out. Everyone else turned it into something about me. The bad guy is usually the bearer of bad news or the truth of a situation. I accept that.

So, not a single one of the guys that has jumped on me in this thread has admitted that buying a $1.5k guitar while "we don't make a lot of money and times is tough lately" is an irresponsible decision. You know it, I know it, well all know it. I just said something about it. Perhaps people aren't as tired of "PC" as they really claim to be. ;)

The OP has since corrected the error about his financial situation. That's cool.

BTW, EVH made 10s of millions of dollars with a POS guitar that probably cost no more than a couple Ben Franklins.
