Makes sense that you guys know each other, you seem to take his side alot. I clearly am not the only one even in this thread seeing what Rogue has done to cause strife and argue. Had the OP been asking for advice on whether or not to get a guitar, and the budget, that would be differently. He did not ask for that opinion, he was praising his wife, and yet here we are, why? Rogue. Its a shame that this thread is now 2-3 pages, mostly full of crap because of that. Clearly I am adding to it, but I am irked where this had gone and I am calling it out.

My comments to the OP have been resolved. He said his post was not his real financial situation and said they were ok with buying a guitar. Everyone else, included you, have made it about me instead of just admitting buying a $1.5K guitar when you don't make a lot of money and times are hard, AND you lost your job and are having difficulty finding another would not be a wise choice. I have not called anyone any names, but they sure have been hurled at me. Why? Because I made a comment on an unwise decision. Well, ok.

Now you live in the south and I know your statement about times are tough..... well,
People in the south will use that statement like street slang...... The statement about we don't make much money I see as Good healthy humility...
Again this is usually a thing people in the south will say on several occasions... They come in to have a car worked on and they will say to the technician...
' I need it fixed but we don't make a lot of money....'
These statements are used sort of like a bridge in daily conversations more than a critical financial spread sheet.....
I find that in all the Skirted Drama that played out in your thread unfortunately...... the fact is and it was stated is,
these words printed without any other aide, albeit insight from knowing the poster, or visual contact while conversing can be taken many different ways even though they print the same.....
You sound really solid if I am reading you right and Congratulations on the wife being SO COOL! Man.....UNSELFISH IS A GOOD DESCRIPTION for what she did out of the blue..... That in it self is amazing especially in times like these no matter who you are.....

We were talking the other day about this new band I've started up and how I'm a bit nervous taking the PRS Custom she bought me as a wedding present to gigs. I know, I know, guitars are meant to be played, and this one gets played a lot and already has it's share of dings. She says, "We need to buy you a good guitar you won't mind carrying to a gig. Which guitar would you like?" I says, "I dunno, depends on the budget." She says, "Is $1500 good? Maybe $1800?"

I love her so much.

We don't make a lot of money and times is tough lately. I don't have a lot of guitars either.

Nice. I'm putting some things in temp storage so we can put our house on the market again (trying to move, but the real estate climate is not good for sellers, and will not be for awhile)...and my wife was just shocked at what I have for gear. Let's say, she's not happy...and you know what that means. That said, I agree with her.

But one can never have enough guitars. so to the OP, go for it...good that your wife gets it.

If I was going for a new guitar, I have more than enough Rics (my favs) so no more for now (talk about GAS!), I'd like a Steinberger - plan to check out their new models when I can, but I dig the originals from the '80s. sold my GL2T long ago, missing it now. I still have my XL2 bass which is never going anywhere.

If you would have just left that last line out, this thread would have been all good. Honestly, to me Rogues first comment seemed like he was just giving a bit of good advice based on completely on that last line of yours. Maybe just trying to help out another musician not get into any financial pinch where they HAVE TO sell off their gear. Just another way to look at it.

Perhaps I could have phrased it differently. But then the thread would have sunk away. It has potential now to go to two pages, maybe three.
