Now that I have the mighty SLO, all the other Marshalls are going. But I just had to try a 2205 one last time, as this one was pretty reasonable. 550...good price. Holy hell this thing is great! Gives me a perfect warm 80s tone and no boost needed, nice and tight. Quiet as hell, which is surprising. Very clean..I've had 2 others, an 86 and an 87 and the 86 was sterile, the 87 was good but needed work and it was a GC online purchase so it went back. This new one is also an 87 and clean as hell, glad I took the chance on Craigslist. Some don't like these switchers but to me it's right up there with any 2204 I've had..not quite as ballsy but close enough for me. Great amp..I've heard the 87s and newer are the ones to get and this one fits the bill.

Nice! I see you have a Kerry King jcm800 as well, how does it compare to this one? Congrats!

The KK is awesome, very underrated. Great noise gate, no pedal needed. But in the end a regular JCM 800 gives me that classic 80s tone I grew up with. Had to have one, be it a single channel or split channel. The SLO is the only amp I would need but..had to have a classic JCM. I have to try to recoup some of the SLO cost so the Jubilee and KK are being offered and I think they are both sold..highly recommend the KK though. It's worth a lot more than the 550 I paid for the 2205 so KKs gotta go..

Congrats! I had the same year/model only it was in green tolex. Wish I woulda kept it (ironically I also now have an SLO lol)!! Like you, I did not find this amp overly loud, I was able to get incred crunchy tones at normal volumes. The '87 2205's DO have the channel bleed issue but honestly, for me anyway, this was a set it and forget it head and that was never a problem.

Just finished playing it and didn't notice any bleed..I remember the 86 having it and I just ran the clean channel totally off and that worked fine. But no need here..so glad I grabbed this. Wow..one of the good ones..ya know how Marshalls can vary...thanks guys!

I had one just like that when I was younger. It was my first tube amp, and I wish I woulda kept if for sentimental reasons. I still don't think I would use it a ton, but still.......... I have the 1960a that I bought with it still. Gratz!

Thanks! There's just something about a plain old classic Marshall tone that I will always want to have around..the SLO is a dream amp for me. Makes me work harder to play that's for sure. Great amp. But this 2205 is quiet, powerful and clean like it came out of the box. And it's got that special 'rip' when you go past 2 on the master..after diming the channel volume of course..and it's got all those 80s tones in one box. The SLO I can make modern, 80s, you name it..but I will have NO problem gigging with this 800.

i have the 1986 2205 - its a great ! no no awesome AMP!!!
i love him to death!
congrat!!!

If I could trust my phone I would...I'll try and see how bad they sound lol....

Dude i know my Iphone isnt going to make great clips and so do most here on the forum. Just hit record and give us some tone. Doesn't have to be stellar.

The 2205 is so underrated, great amp for the 80's tones plugged straight in. Great amp and I liked the 2205 over the 2210 as it had a sweeter tone. John Norum loves them too but he loads his with kt88's.

Man do I miss my 2205. It was from 1990 IIRC and it was clean. I also had a Peavey XXX at the same time which covered the sound I needed better at the time. The 2205 was begging me to crank it, which I did when I could. The XXX just had the balls and gain at apartment levels. I got a DSL100 later on which didn't sound as good as the 2205. Then had a TSL60, worst of the bunch. I've finally come back to Marshall with a 6100, 5881 version. I don't think it sounds as good as the 2205 but it has 3 channels which I really like having.

Ok so I'm getting a different phone this week. Will post a clip or two soon..

With my iPhone, I've found putting it right near the speaker, like it was a mic, makes decent sound clips! All my youtube videos were done with my iPhone 5 too.

Not bad for just demoing how a guitar or amp sounds!

Yup. I'll be getting a better phone later this week. The data plan went with the stepdaughter when she went off to school 2 years ago..but it's time I upgraded lol...
