Struck out on first attempt at nostalgia buying but later found a cheaper one that actually shipped! Packaging was an interesting mix of care and WTF. Bubble wrapped well with cardboard strips protecting front and back but in an enormous square box where the top 7-8 inches were just packing paper that squashed down to nothing. Some of the pots need a little clean and the channel change switch but at least they all move very smoothly. Here’s a quickie I did right after unboxing today. Clean channel, then boosted, then lead channel. My 1984 Gibson V with Marshallheads and the EVH cab that I’m not sure if I’ll sell now 😂

What was hilarious is I uploaded the vid to share here and it already said it had 78 views before I could click on the share icon. I was like, yeah YouTube, I’m sure 78 people have watched this obscure short from a barely used channel in 30 seconds. 😉

Tbh, the other day i posted a random short of me doing a push press, and it got 1.2k views in 10 hours. Shit is random

I’ll never sell my 5150II. Everyone needs a 5150 in their life. Amp sounds killer too. They just do the thing and do it really well.

HNAD!

Also I’ll forever stay on the hill that 5150’s just sound better than SLOs.

Sounds like fun
I’m pleasantly surprised how much I still like it. When I owned one in the 90’s I never left the lead channel but I really dig the lower gain tone with the clean channel on 5-6. I wanted to get this version because they cleaned up the clean channel too much on the II. But I never quite got along with the midrange on the II anyway. Got a little peaky.

I also forgot what an awesome table/work bench they make. This thing is fucking deep.

Nice score.

I had two of them back in the day; sold the first to fund a recto & the 2nd to fund an Engl.

I’ve had #3 since 2021, maybe I’ll be wise enough to keep it.

These are still one of my favorite amps all time. And the only 5150 variant I really love. Sounds like a keeper!

What do you think after having it s few days ?

I haven't played on one in years.

It's a keeper. I've been pleasantly surprised at the amp works for the ways my playing and choice in pickups etc has changed over the years. I mean my playing hasn't changed a ton but the amp feels like something I could definitely use currently, rather than just busting out some old riffs from past days etc. Actually pretty amazing this design came out in 1992 (or '87, depending on what you believe ).
Actually sounds pretty great on the clean channel for bass too.
