A week or so ago I asked questions about the Krankenstein.
It got bashed.
But I found a local deal and picked it up, sight unseen.
Plugged it in and was very pleasantly surprised, once I had read up on how to actually dial the amp in...
If I dialed it in like any normal amp, yeah, it is a buzzy sucky thing.
BUT...if you crank the master to at least 7 (2 o'clock or so), then bring up the preamp master, this amp has some enormous balls. and it sounds really thumpy and stays really tight.
Works really well for those Mosh Pit style power chord riffs.
According to what I was told by Tim of Austrian Death Machine/As I lay dying, he used a Maxon OD808 into the front of the amp, so I tried that, and then the amp gets a lot more aggressive. This pedal works better with this amp than others I have tried...
There's a bit of presence, and finding the sweep spot is interesting, as it can be dark and muddy, and all the way to ear piercing bright, but balancing the mids, treble, bass, sweep and presence, creates one of the most RAW grinding ballsy pit worthy riff amps I have heard.
There's a certain note separation to it, where the notes don't all mesh together in a chord, and I like it...like the power chord has more balls and is more gravelly voiced.
Also, i think it Must go into a Mesa 4x12 with V30's to sound really good. I plugged it into my Bogner Uberkab, and I didn't like it very much. Tried the Marshall and it was too bright. but in the Mesa cab, it sounds great. So Cab Definitely Makes A Difference with this amp.
So I don't care what you say, Naysayers. I like this amp. I think it can definitely work for MY style.
And since everyone has there own style...it is what it is.
