A week or so ago I asked questions about the Krankenstein.
It got bashed.

But I found a local deal and picked it up, sight unseen.

Plugged it in and was very pleasantly surprised, once I had read up on how to actually dial the amp in...
If I dialed it in like any normal amp, yeah, it is a buzzy sucky thing.
BUT...if you crank the master to at least 7 (2 o'clock or so), then bring up the preamp master, this amp has some enormous balls. and it sounds really thumpy and stays really tight.
Works really well for those Mosh Pit style power chord riffs.
According to what I was told by Tim of Austrian Death Machine/As I lay dying, he used a Maxon OD808 into the front of the amp, so I tried that, and then the amp gets a lot more aggressive. This pedal works better with this amp than others I have tried...
There's a bit of presence, and finding the sweep spot is interesting, as it can be dark and muddy, and all the way to ear piercing bright, but balancing the mids, treble, bass, sweep and presence, creates one of the most RAW grinding ballsy pit worthy riff amps I have heard.
There's a certain note separation to it, where the notes don't all mesh together in a chord, and I like it...like the power chord has more balls and is more gravelly voiced.
Also, i think it Must go into a Mesa 4x12 with V30's to sound really good. I plugged it into my Bogner Uberkab, and I didn't like it very much. Tried the Marshall and it was too bright. but in the Mesa cab, it sounds great. So Cab Definitely Makes A Difference with this amp.

So I don't care what you say, Naysayers. I like this amp. I think it can definitely work for MY style.
And since everyone has there own style...it is what it is.

Congrat's dude as long as you like it that is all that matters

I have similar feelings about the Rivera K-Tre. so many people here told me not to get one, but I still like them/wish I had pulled the trigger. however, now that I have the Roadster I'm less interested in it. but i digress. Happy NAD/IDGAFWYT day!

Happy new amp day. I'm not sure what it is about Kranks that does make me want one...I'm not sure if it's the price that I think it can't be that awful for that money or if it is just that they were just coming out when I was just learning about gear and all that...I'm not sure. Regardless: happy new amp day and play it loud!

You care, that's why you started the thread.

Buy for yourself no one else. Some people buy gear for all the wrong reasons on forums...

Interesting phenomenon, right? Buying gear to impress a bunch of faceless dudes on the Internet?

Isn't that what really matters? No need to justify it. But I have to ask, Is this amp filling some void that all of your other amps isn't?

Glad you like  but, clips or it's a Peavey in a Krank headshell! I really don't have an opinion on Krank as I have never heard them, but have to admit whenever the subject off Krank amps comes up I instantly flashback to that terrible, horrid sounding clip of Dimebag playing one in the Krank shop soon before his death. And thats coming from someone who did not at all dislike his solid state live tones.

you know i have always wanted to play a krank amp. clips please

yep.
I think stock they did Sovtek 5881's and EH12ax7's.
Those tubes are still in there (there was one preamp that was a groove tube I think so I replaced it with another EH12ax7, like all the others).
Sounds good to me. I am sure it would sound good with new tubes, but seem fine, so they can wait until something blows.

And I did test this out direct comparison to my 5150. The 5150 is smoother. It's a different gain structure. Reminds me more of a Dual Rectifier, but without the loose bottom end. Like I said, there is a certain note separation that remains loose while the rest of it seems tight. Not as aggressive as the Cobra. (the cobra is just plain mean sounding). Not as saturated as the ENGL.
It's really hard to describe...but Raw and tight seems to match best. Also the mids seem to really cut very well.

I'll get to clips sooner or later.

Yah, f'n great. So you don't care what we say, but you just wasted enough broadband so everyone can now realize that your s^!t does stink!

See you there, bucko, maybe a week, or less -> http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites
